I finally fixed this. I had tried the above and also removing the cmos battery. Nothing worked. I had removed all power. I took the main power battery out and disconnected the AC power for 36 hours.
It booted when I put the power back. I shut it down before it could get to windows.
I booted from a Ultimate Boot CD 4 win and did a registry restore to a date prior to this occuring. Rebooted and the the machine has been working ever since.
I always had the feeling that this was a video driver issue but the fact that it stayed in this dead suspended state with no power still baffles me.
I was able to reproduce this experiment and only when all power was removed for over 24 hours was I able to get it to start up ????????

Try taking out battery and plug in power. If it works, battery is faulty.
If not, try taking out your hard disk plug in power, if it works, hard disk is faulty.Try taking out memory card, if there's a sound, memory card faulty. If no sound, it's your motherboard that is causing the error.

Note: If machine is under warranty no need to pay for the repairs.

Here are my recommendations for this issue:

1. Reseat the battery.
2. Remove All External Components
3. Check the battery connectors on the battery and the system. Examine the connector on the battery and the system. Make sure that there is no physical damage and that it is clear of debris.
4. Remove All External Components
5. Try a known-good battery in the system, if available.

Does not power up

Battery may be bad on the laptop. Try removing the battery and powering on the computer with only the AC power.

(Usually you can flip them over and there's a locking "slide" that you have to hold over while you remove the battery. )

If it still refuses to power it on, try to note what it says on the screen (use a digital camera to snap a few photos if necessary) and post back. It seems likely that it's the battery, however.

Hope that helps.
