Question about Electrical Supplies
Em2500 honda ... my generator usually starts by the second pull. we had big snow yesterday. it misbehaved when I pulled it out onto the porch. It started on the second pull, then it sputtered and ran for about 2 minutes then quit and would not restart. I gave up and let it sit for 3 hours. when I returned, I fired it up on the second pull, left it partially choked until it warmed up, then put it into full run mode. it worked beautifully for 12 hours. shut it off overnight. next morning, same thing. I closed the choke and it fired up on the second pull, it ran for about 30 seconds to warm up, then it quit and have not been able to restart since. fuel is new and it was serviced last fall. what do you suggest? thanks. If the oil level is low it will do this, but I also know this to happen when the oil is very cold (thick) an won't fow back own o the crankcase where the oil sensor is. The slow return results in a low oil level. My solution is to start it, when it dies wait a couple of minutes and retry... after a few starts, the oil will warm up, thus flowing back down faster and it then will run. Another option is to use a thinner oil ie;5-30w.

Does your unit have a low oil pressure cutoff?
These smaller gen sets will burn some oil in extended use, especially under a moderate to heavy load. Check the oil level.
Also, check the high and low speed speed carb jet setting (some units may not have a low speed jet), make sure the fuel is ok, and take a look at the sediment screen in the fuel tank. Lastly, if it keeps acting up, disassemble the carb and float bowl and look for problems in the float, needle valve, and needle valve seat. These small engines vibrate and things can go out of whack.
