Question about Canon imageCLASS MF8170C All-In-One Laser Printer
I am getting a System Error E197 message on my Canon imageCLASS MF8170C - what does this mean and what do I do?
I get that error sometimes, i called Canon they don't know any solution for that error code, i always fix it by turning off the machine and turn it back on, and it work just fine, but i keep getting it once every two week, its something has to do with the Voltage on the machine, it may not get enough power, or is getting more power.

Its the Low Voltage Power Supply (LVPS) & its horrible to replace. There is no way I would recommend someone to do it themselves. I work on these unfortunately. If you've had it over a year it's no longer under warranty & I'm not sure where you'd go.

Ronl, is the printer plugged in to an extension cord or power bar? If so, try plugging it directly into the AC outlet on the wall, some shared power cords will interfere with the 81xx series power saving function

Open the covers and refix any connection, this is brought about by lose connection, had the same issue with canon ir1024a and after refixing any connection withing the motherboard everything went back to normal

I had the same error message E071. Had to call out an engineer who diagnose the Drum 701 was leaking toner - this got on the electrical contacts at the bottom of the drum. He cleaned the contacts on the drum and in the machine - put my old Drum in there and all is OK. The drum was 9 months old and not had much use so I am trying to get a replacement from Canon under warantee.

Tips for a great answer:
Remove your printer from the PC and uninstall the printer software. Now reinstall the printer software and connect the Printer to be detected and installed. Check printer properties to see the ink levels.
Use head cleaning before a test is taken .If not contact the canon service to check the mainboard.
