LAST NIGHT I WAS LISTENING TO MY IPOD AND IT WAS WORKING PERFECTLY THEN I TURNED IT OFF LIKE YOU USUALLY WOULD BUT WHEN I TRIED TO TURN IT ON TODAY IT WOULDNT TURN ON SO I TRIED TO CHARGE IT ON MY LAPTOP AND IT CAME BACK TO LIFE BUT THEN IT CAME UP ON MY IPOD IN WEIRD WRITING SAYING DO NOT DISCONNECT AND IT JUST FROZE AND WONT COME BACK AND THE WRITING IS STILL ON THE SCREEN AND WHEN I PLUG IT INTO THE LAPTOP TO CHARGE IT A NOTE COMES UP SAYING:USB DEVICE NOT RECOGNISED-ONE OF THE USB DEVICES ATTACHED TO THIS COMPUTER HAS MALFUNCTIONED,AND WINDOWS DOES NOT RECOGNISE IT.FOR ASSISTANCE IN SOLVING THIS PROBLEM CLICK THIS MESSAGE!!BUT I TRIED IT LOADS OF TIMES AND IT DOESNT WORK!!!

-   all i did was press play on my ipod and everythink started out fine but just as the music started playing the ipod shut off. i tried to reset it........nothing. so i tried plugging it into my computer to charge..........nothing. not even a message on the computer. i know the file isn't bad cuz i've listened to it plenty of times. it's been down for weeks now and it's just not turning back on.-   finess

to others try to reset your ipod. hold middle and menu button down together. keep me posted on the results.

I think you bricked it. When it says Do Not Disconnect, it means it!! If you disconnected it while it said that, you bricked it! The motherboard can be replaced, however, and it should work again. Don't think its worth doing that though.
