Question about Philips 60P8341 60" Rear Projection Television
60p8341A - light flashes once turnd on and makes a high pitched chirping noise (not firing up):( sounds like it wants to turn on howevr doesn't
Poorly made transformers can cause odd noises if the circuit in which they are used continually tries to start but is shut down again immediately.
I would suspect some component in the main power supply, quite possibly a failing electrolytic capacitor causing it to cycle.
You might check with Philips to see if they have a repair or replacement program for the supply. You will have to gain access to the guts; probably via a lower rear panel and I would allow the set to stay unplugged overnight as some parts remain alive and others can carry a charge for hours. Look for a board with larger-than-average components on it, particularly the mentioned transformers which are block-like objects and also the board will have larger cylindrical components on it as well. If will have one or more part numbers that a service center can use for reference.
