Windows can not detect DVD-RW as DVD-RW. Try setting up Writing software like Nero, infrarecorder ( free , click to download ) to write DVD s.

How to burn a CD to a Pacific Digital CD RW from a Tascam Porta Studio - is it possible?

If the tascam has a digital out and you have digital inputs in an upper model sound blaster, you should be able to load the files on the computer. There are converter software pieces that will convert anything out there. Just do a search. (Load your files first.) . Short of that, record the analog output from the Tascam into a GOOD audio card with little floor noise in lossless WMA or similar and convert from there. Burn to CD last.

I do not have the round 4 or 5 pin cable that connects to the back of the dvd burner and to the computer.

I have the same Pacific Digital burner; I'm pretty sure the "round 4 or 5 pin cable" you're referring to is a 5 pin power supply cable.

Can operate with CD ROM's. Won't recognize DVD's.

Sounds like the drive could be going bad. The way the laser reads DVDs vs. CDs is different, that is why you are able to read one, not the other. I had this happen to me, except the opposite. It could read DVDs, not CDs. Had to buy a new one, and all is well.

It's not a $15 problem and I think you site is deceptive.. I am not giving you the answer to a problem you may or may not already know so you can charge someone for it.
