No sound with head phones either, everything looks fine in Device Manager and the sound card is shoing up fine and enabled. When I do a voice test, the register bar shows activity, as well as when I records. The computer is responding to my voice definitely. Howevere, there is no output sound at all. And I do see in the Volume control, the horizonaltal levers to adjust the balance for the speakers and the microphone is disabled. It is positioned in the middle and can't be shifted in either direction. However, the volume can be adjusted. Any suggestions? What do I do if the sound circuit is blown?

He may have blown the sound circuit if the power from the Phillips was too much.

Try using head phones to see if you get sound. If you get sound ur speakers on the laptop are blown, if not it might be the sound circuit. You should check Device Manager to see if ur sound card is showing up or if there is an error on it. If its blown you might not find any sound device or it might be highlighted with an error

In Device Manager and in Control Panel under Sounds and Audio Devices \ Audio \ Sound Playback what type of Audio Device are you seeing?

If it is the card that's blown you'll have no choice but to replace it by a laptop tech sorry. If its still under warranty Gateway may do it for you.

Try downloading the Audio driver from

    http://support.gateway.com/support/drive...

and reinstalling, just to make sure that the audio driver didn't some how get corrupted. Although I don't see how that could happen from him plugging in a sound system but its worth a shot.

Just paste the site into your browser and follow the instructions shown.

Gateway m350wvn will turn on but it beeps

Usually these beeps are signs of hardware failing inside the unit. Does everything load correctly? Start with removing one stick of RAM at a time to see if the beeps stop, if they continue it may be a bad motherboard.

I have to hit the f1 key to continue the bootup process. Then I get a defective fan error message, but the fan is running, becasue I can hear it.

there may be more than one fan-- there also is a setting in the BIOS to disable the fan warning if you are SURE that the fan it is monitoring is working correctly.

Taking Gateway laptops is an easy endeavor. Here is a link to a disassemble of a 3500 series . Basically they all come apart the same.
Hope this helps. Just take your time and remember what screw goes where.

copy and paste the complete link into your browser.
If I could be of further assistance, let me know. If this helps or solves the issue, please rate it.

Gateway m350wvn sound

R U running XP or vista?
Be sure to make the difference when selecting drivers. Normally the drivers will be in a zip package. Download, unzip and then goto control panel - system and uninstall devices and then "action" scan for changes. This will reinstall the drivers from the unzipped location, ( U may have to tell it where they are). Good Luck
