Question about KEF Audio PSW 2500 Subwoofer

1 Answer

I just bought a KEF PSW2500 subwoofer and am trying to connect it to a Yamaha v663 receiver. However, I went from a subwoofer pre-out 1 to the right line in on the sub. I don't hear any sounds from the subwoofer. Any help is appreciated!

HI,go into the yam setup menu and make sure you have the sub turned on and cross over set to about 80hrtz if this suits your speakers, set sub level to about -5 on amp and say half way on the sub, this should work if not pull out sub cable at amp and touch the end,you should get a hum,if not you may have no power, faulty cable or sub.
PS>make sure you are pluged into the sub PRE OUT and NOT the six channel in.
Hope this helps.
CABLE GUY.

I can't get my reciever to play my subwoofer

The sub channel will be switched off. You need to find the speaker settings, locate the sub channel settings and switch it on.

I have a Yamaha HTR 3063 reciever and I just got a PSW 2000 Kef sub and I can't get the sub to WORK NO MATTER WHAT I DO PLEASE HELP

That is a potentially great combination. I have a Yamaha receiver but I am not familiar enough with Kef to know but is it possible your receiver expects to be connected to a powered sub. Are you sure the Kef works by itself? Have you checked to see whether the receiver subwoofer output works with another speaker? Could receiver mode selection be a factor? My Yamaha switches various functions on and off depending upon your preference.

For what it's worth, the troubleshooting section of my Yamaha manual says a subwoofer no sound problem can be caused by selecting MAIN LFE/BASS OUT on the SET MENU when Dolby or DTS material is being played or selecting SWFR when a 2-channel source is being played. Something has to work!

Hello ! I'm not sure how to connect my kef psw 2500 sub to my yamaha amp. I've got a subwoofer out on my amp but there's 4 inputs on the sub and I don't no which one to use ! Please help as getting...

Just for clarity, I need to explain what the four inputs are on the KEF subwoofer. There is a left and right RCA input which is the input signal to the subwoofer and there is a left and right RCA output which is the High Pass output from the subwoofer.

On the back of the Yamaha receiver, you said you have a subwoofer output. This output is most likely the mono subwoofer part of the home theater system and can be used if you like. The left right signal input into the KEF is summed into mono so if you only connect one channel you will basically reduce the signal level by 1/2 (-3dB) but it will work fine.

Alternatively, if your Yamaha receiver has monitor out and monitor in, you can run the monitor output signals to the subwoofer and you can then run the high pass outputs from the subwoofer back to the monitor in. This will give you the subwoofer and provide a smoother signal matching with your audio system.

It is not always easy to connect the subwoofer up to an integrated receiver/home cinema system using the high pass channels of the subwoofer as you don't always have access to the analog output and input of the front channels. In this case, just use the Subwoofer output or just the monitor out only.

I hope this solution is helpful.

Subwoofer

Without being able to access the receiver in person, the best advice I can give you is to sit down with your user manual and follow the instructions. You'll find, starting on page 85, the necessary settings for hooking up a subwoofer to the receiver. If you don't have the manual, you can obtain a pdf file at Yamaha.com: http://www.yamaha.com/yamahavgn/Documents/YEC/AV_Receivers/Manual/RX-V663_U-1.pdf

OVERLOAD

First of all the KEF is a powered sub which means that it wants a line level signal NOT a speaker level. Send the signal from a tape output or pre-amp output to the sub input. The overload is because the impedence load for the speaker output is too low and looks like a short to the amp. Continued attempts to connect the system as described will result in damage to the output section of the amp.

Please let me know if you need more info.

Bose Acoustimass 15 subwoofer is completely dead.

Clarify, did it ever work for you? Were both receivers used properly configured for the subwoofer? Did you also test the other speaker moduels running off the subwooferto see if they work?

Speaker Receiver setting
• Left and right LARGE
• Center LARGE
• Left and right surround LARGE
• Center surround* LARGE
• LFE/Subwoofer ON
With an Acoustimass 16 Series II system or upgraded Acoustimass 15 Series IlI system only.

Best hook- up Polk psw10 sub woofer to yamaha rx-v663 receiver

You will not need to y connect your subwoofer, if you have only one RCA sub out on your receiver the other end of the RCA connector cable goes into the left input on most powered subs, there is no loss of signal, the option exist as some receiver do sport a double RCA sub out.

Yamaha rx v663 receiver, turntable input

What you will need is a phono pre-amp, then you can run into the receiver with a line level input to an empty audio input on the receiver, you can try Radio Shack to obtain one.

Voices drowned out by background noise.

Not a suggestion, but I hope there is a solution.
Recently bought an LG HDTV that has a setting that should increase the voice over the background. If it does, I can't notice the difference. I guess they can probably measure it electronic.
I've had your same complaint for years, without a good solution. Best so far is to use headphones.
I have no idea why film people add all the extra noise. Most of it is not even real.
