It sounds like a hardware issue. You didn't say whether the pendrive or flash drive was freezing on boot or not. It is possible your bios chip is loosely connected.

a mainboard replacement should solve the issue if it is a hardware issue, but depending on the age of the laptop may not be worthwhile... a bios update may stop the problem if it is a software issue (if it doesn't it is a loose wire or such somewhere).

try booting a knoppix live cd - you can download em free... see if the pendrive issue goes away - if it doesn't then its hardware. if it does then your os has issues...

most likely altogether a hardware issue, and needs a new mainboard.

My pendrive is detecting but the pendrive icon not shown in my computer.

First, try the pendrive in a different computer.
Files on a flash drive can be corrupted if it is not removed from the USB port properly.
Before removing the flash drive click on the Safely Remove Hardware icon and then click on the flash drive you want to remove and then remove the flash drive when the computer message says it is Safe to remove.
To restore the flash drive you may need to format the flash drive, but you will lose the data stored on the flash drive.

Are you sure the pen drive is using Drive G? Unplug it and then look at "My Computer" to verify what drives are being used at the moment. Plug it back in and see what has been added to the list in "My Computer"

Pendrive appear as cd drive in my computer

******Chances are that the CD drive took the drive letter of your thumb drive and it is now locked.******

Need to know what operating system you are using: Win 2000, XP, Vista. There are different tools you need to use in order to resolve this issue.

For XP (your thumb drive needs to be inserted)

Click start then run. Type "compmgmt.msc"

This will bring up the Computer Management console. From there you will see the Storage category (on the left side). Under Storage click the Disk Management sub category.

Here you will see all the file systems available to windows.

Right click on the drive in question and click the "Change drive letter and paths" sub-category. Just choose a letter that is not in use. I prefer to use 2 or 3 letters down from the current.

Now properly remove drive and re-insert.

Hope that helps.
