I think its the modem that you need to upgrade. Comcast is already running on DOCSIS 3.0 system. The SB5120 modem that you have is a DOCSIS 2.0 modem. You may need to have your modem replaced with a DOCSIS 3.0 modem like the Motorola SB6120.
u need a router to share internet connection, not 2 modems, from the way your explaining it im going to assume you just bought the modem went home and plugged it up, Well.. thats not going to work , your modem needs to be registered with the network your trying to access(comcast)
The problem would be comcast. Your connections are setup correctly. The modems do not control the internet traffic flow, they are made to produce maximum flow. If more people use the internet, the less flow it will have. Check all internet options settings, and make sure EVERTHING is set to automatic
This usually means something is not correct with your incoming signal. If your cable wire into the modem is being run off an amplifier in the wall this could be effecting your service. If the signal is too strong the modem won't be able to communicate for internet.
You could check the incoming wire to see if it is running off an amplifier. If it is you would need to run a new line that is not on the amplifier. I would recommend comcast coming out to check the signal frequency and make the necessary adjustments.
