Question about Garmin GPS

1 Answer

I entered a destination point to my Garmin Nuvi 370 and started to drive. In a while I realized that the route became weird. I checked the route in Garmin and found that my destination point became wrong, smth. like 001. I re-entered the destination and then everything was OK. What could be the reason of self-changing the destination point?

It never happened before. The only thing I remember that my device was not attached securely to the windshield and fell a couple of times. Could it be the reason of the self-reset? Also the destination 001 that was self-entered: does it make any sense or it's a random combination of characters? Thanks.

Thanks. I'll monitor my device. But there is my last question: in your first response you said that I should have locked in the destination point. But I don't remember any prompts that would ask me to do it. After I entered the destination point, I clicked Go and that's it. When was that prompt supposed to appear?

The solution was helpful although the exact reason of my problem was not identified. It is recommended to monitor my device.

Most often times it has to do with how you enter the info. if you entered you destination you might have forgotten to push a promp therefore your info was not locked in, hence why when you re-enterd that info i'm sure you carefully went through all the promp[s to lock that information in. one question i have for you is did this happen for the first time or has it been an intermittant problem

if the unit was dropped it's possible for a reset, however unliklely. now if it is a self random input there could have been a glitch that was triggered because a certain prompt initiated it, now i'm not saying it was on error on your part, but but with all electronic devices a self initialization can erase input information. most of your advanced gps units contain a diagnostic protocol. once activated all stored way points can be erased because of a glitch. it's hard for me to say if this is the case considering that once you re-enterd the info there was no further problems. my advice is to monitor the unit while in use if this problem occurs again have the unit replaced. most warrenties are for 1-3 years depending in the model at no cost to you. the Nuvi is a newer mopdel and could have unforeseen bugs but chances are this was a one time odd occurance. i do hopes this answers your question

My Gamin Nuvi can't unlock maps

Use a Garmin 1450

The Garmin Nuvi 1450 can be used while driving or walking.

While driving, use the Nuvi 1450 to create a route to your destination and get step-by-step directions, to hear the names of upcoming streets, to tell you when to change lanes and to find out the speed limits on unfamiliar streets.

As a pedestrian, you can have the Nuvi 1450 create a route for you that uses a mixture of walking and public transportation, such as the subway or bus system, if you have purchased cityXplorer maps for that area.

Tap "Where to?" to set up a route. The "Where to?" icon is a large magnifying glass.

Tap "Addresses." The available categories are address, points of interest, go home, recently found, favorites and intersections.

Input the name of the state or county, if it is out of town.

Then tap "Spell city." Spell out the name of the city using the pop up keyboard.

Press "Done."

Enter the address number and press "Done."

Then enter the street name and press "Done."

The "Go" screen opens automatically.

Tap the green "Go" button. The Nuvi 1450 will now calculate a route to the address.

Follow the voice prompts and map highlight to your destination.

Navigate Using Coordinates

Tap "Where to?" and then tap "Coordinates."

Tap the coordinate you want to adjust/input a new coordinate.

Tap "Format" to choose the right coordinate format for the map you are using.

Enter the coordinates. Tap "Next."

Tap the green "Go" button to calculate a route.

Use the Map Page

Navigate to your destination by following the voice prompts, highlighted route on the map and directions located at the top of the map screen.
Tap the "turn" icon located in the upper left corner of the screen to see the next turn. It may have a turning or straight arrow and the number of miles until the turn. Tap the bar across the top with the next direction listed on it to see a list of all directions.

Tap the plus or minus signs on the right side of the screen to zoom in or out.

Press the spinning arrow in the lower left corner of the screen to return to the main menu.

Tap the "car" icon traveling along the highlighted route to enter the "Where Am I?" screen and get your exact location, coordinates and nearby emergency services.

Hope this helps

My Garmin 1450 locks up and will not compute a route, or show maps. It is about 3 weeks old and this it the first trip for it.

I experienced the same issue with a Garmin Dezl 560 - which is based on the Nuvi. After experimentation with various very long routes the Garmin started with sudden restarts, lockups and other weird behavior. It became unusable - which seemed like a programming error to me.

After a Master Reset - clearing all user data (POIs / Routes / Tracks) the Garmin acted normal again.

A master reset is triggered by holding the right bottom corner of the screen for at least 20 seconds while pressing the power button once. A question appears after some time to clear all user data.

Recently I've upgraded to a latest software version through MyGarmin.com - haven't seen this sudden lock-up / restart issue since.

How to set multiple destinations?

Some garmin satnavs allow you to save routes which have multiple destinations. The 265WT does not so the only way to set it for multiple destinations is to use via points. First press WHERE To and enter your last destination. Press GO and then while that is active pres MENU and WHERE TO again. Enter your second last destination and press GO. It will ask if you want this to be a new destination or a VIA point. Select VIA point. Continue to add other destinations in the same way with the destinations nearest to the end going in first and the closest to the start going last.

It's not ideal especially as it cannot be saved for future use but unfortunately for some strange reason Garmin do not include the option to store routes on all their satnavs.

Hello everyone. I bought garmin nuvi 750 GPS six months ago. I use it travelling all over and it works pretty good. But I dont know how could i find alternate route for same destination. For eg. I want to...

What you're looking for is called "Via Points" as your friend correctly suggested. From the Garmin Nuvi 750 web based information:

nüvi 750 includes advanced navigational features to take the worry out of traveling. With route planning you can save 10 routes, specify via points and preview simulated turns on the 750's wide screen. In addition, nüvi 750 automatically sorts multiple destinations to provide an efficient route for errands, deliveries or sales calls.

"Alternate routes" are those routes that are created when the nuvi is used with a traffic receiver (FM or MSDN). This allows for a new route to be created with the traffic data so that routes suffering congestion, etc. are avoided. Some people also refer to the routes created when a turn is missed (the GPS indicates "Recalculating") as an "alternate route" but it is not.

Good luck!

Location is not shown correctly

everytime u turn the GPS device on it takes anywhere from 30secs to 4 mins to find and lock in the satellites . Once the satellites locked in it will be then start taking ur commands. In ur case u turned it off as u started driving and when u restarted it , it had a memory of where u turned it off and displayed u the location where u turned it off which was ur home, right, now if u would have waited till some satellites locked in , it would have then automatically displayed ur then current location. so next time when u start the unit (any GPS) wait till it locks in the satellites.

thank.

On the map of my nuvi 350, the screen reads" insert in route as via point". Whatis meant by this statement?

When you select a destination on your Nuvi, you start from your present location, we'll call this point "A" and proceed to the final destination, we'll call point "B".

A via point is some place you establish in between, we'll call it point "C". It allows you to go from point "A" to point "B", by going through point "C".

I am trying to put in multiple destinations for the same trip. When I try to put in my second destination it keeps going back to my home site not my first destination. It starts the trip for my second...

The Nuvi you have does not support multiple destinations in a route. you can have 1 destination and 1 via point. So if you are going to a destination and you need to add a stop in the route, you can add the 2nd point to go to and then continue to the original destination.
