Samsung SyncMaster 940MW screen problem

Hi, I have a problem with my monitor, SyncMaster 940MW. It has been working for around a month 1/2, but now a problem has occurred. Every now and then my screen goes very black, I can make out faintly some of my programs I was running. To make it work again I have to switch my monitor off then on. It works for around 40secs and then it goes very dark again. If i leave the monitor off for a couple of hours it works again, but after an hour or so of it being on it goes very dark again. So any ideas?

Re: Samsung SyncMaster 940MW screen problem

I am apt to believe this is a known problem. I chose to send mine back to the manufacturer, with the 3 year parts and labor warranty. Possibly they have the problem diagnosed and are only replacing those that call in the problem.
Either way, I found them accomodating and readily willing to replace or repair the unit.
So sad...consumer reports lists the Samsung 940BX not MW as one of their best buys. If you look at the manufacturing origin on the MW, it says Tiajuana, Mexico (my production date of 6-2006). Could be possible to have a run of defective parts. Who knows. Samsung would not like to ruin their excellent reputation with consumer if I were you...I would opt to have it replaced.

Re: Samsung SyncMaster 940MW screen problem

From what it sounds like Tom is that you have a heating problem. As soon as it warms up your monitor goes black. First I would Shut it down for a couple of hours. Unhook the power cord and let it completely cool down. Some monitors have a temperature breaker. When temp reaches a point higher than the set breaker it will shut off or power down. After I would say 2-3 hrs of cooling power it up and see what happens. If after a certian amount of time it does it again you have a over heat problem. If that happens again go to your favorite search engine and enter syncmaster 940mw support. Goto the manufactures web site and find your model. You may be able to find a solution to the over heat there. There is also a possibility there was a recall on that particular model for a overheat problem.

That is a hell know problem with the 940MW tv/monitors. The power supply has failed because of parts called capacitors have shorted. If you can solder then you should be able to repair your monitor. Here is a link to the repair guide for this issue.

Make sure that under display properties in your computer, that the laptop is outputting an image. The PC option will not show up unless there is a signal to the monitor from the laptop.

Parental controls

I wasn't able to find a 940MW. I do see a 941MW and a 940NW.
The 941MW manual has some basic instructions on page 36.

The 940NW manual can be found here.

Good luck!

Samsung 940mw intermittent power...

I don't have a solution but would like to compare information as i just started looking into this problem myself. 1. I bought my Samsung 940mw in March, 2006 but didn't start having problems with it until around April, 2007 2. I'll be using it as my pc monitor when the screen goes black and the power light stays solid green. The monitor doesn't respond to the remote control. Nor can i manually turn it off via power button BUT i can restore it by a) turning power off at the UPS outlet it's plugged into b) removing the monitor cable from PC port c) restoring power and waiting for the Samsung diagnostic message about no monitor detected then d) plugging the cable back in. My monitor image reappears. 3. fyi I only use the analog monitor input. Samsung also released a new driver which hasn't made a difference. Within just last couple months the monitor will sometimes just go black a coupla seconds and come back on without any intervention
