A Hard Drive Space Upgrade Limit?

Is there a limit to the amount of hard drive space I can add when I replace my laptop's hard drive?

Originally, my Acer Aspire 5050 came with a 100GB hard drive, but sadly, it is physically damaged. I know that the maximum allowable RAM upgrade on this old laptop is 4GB, but I was wondering if there is such a thing as a "too big" hard drive. I am concerned that I will buy a hard drive that I will not be able to use.

Speeding up laptop has many factors involved, hard drive space, amount of RAM, CPU and/or age of your laptop. If hard drive is limited in space then clearing space on hard drive may help the laptop cache things. Adding RAM may help and upgrading the CPU may help as well. Laptops are limited in the things that you can do, other than, replacing the laptop itself.

Need help freeing up disc space

Fragmentation of your hard disk will limit the amount of room reported on your HDD so a simple defrag could help. If you wish to free up disk space after doing a defrag and it still reports the same amount of room on your HDD you can use your add/remove and uninstalling any programs, games etc that are not used or used very little. If you are becoming limited on space due to windows updates etc then it maybe time to get a larger HDD and transfer all files and settings using transfer wizard to the new drive and then keep the old drive as a slave for extra storage. If you have done this and you still are very limited in HDD room then adding more space with another drive will increase it further but remember anything that has to do with windows or main programs such as office etc will all be stored to your main drive. I hope this helps.

My passport is originally 250 GB but now it says that it's only 94 MB. I don't know what happened.

is that a free space and used space graphic? or does the entire disk(use start my computer right click on hard drive and see what total amount of space says)

if you have been using this for a while, that would explain the lower figure but this graphic will clearly show the balance on that drive

here's a link for a free disk optimizer that might help too

There isnt really a limit of the number of files, but there is a limit on space.

If you go into "my computer"(windows xp) or "computer" (windows vista/7)
and right click on the icon for your SanDisk. Choose properties, and it should give you a nice pie graph to show your free space.

If there is free space left, then it is safe to say that there is something else going on.

If not, you are out of space!

Cheers!

Menory low on harddrive a220n

If your disk space is low on the Hard Disk drive, delete or move some files off. You can replace the hard disk for 30-50 dollars with a larger one. If it is low on memory (RAM) you can add more up to the system limit from several sources.
Thanks

Hard Drive Upgrade

Yes, the motherboard should support that size drive with no problems. You will have to reinstall windows using the discs that dell sent you originally. Be aware the drivers for dell can be tricky to reinstall.
