    Hello again,

Yes, there is a green light which is the same light that comes on when TV is turned on. This light blinked 29 times, then 6 more times until picture came back on and with volume, and this is happening every few moments now. Which is aweful. Thank you again and I will be waiting to hear from you again soon.

I have seen this several times. usually its a sighn of the lamp getting weak. replace the lamp and should be good to go. as far as the bluish purplish hue, most likely the optical assy.

Such a nice name. This is a difficult one to diagnose. I think what you need is a service manual. I happen to have this service manual. It will explain how to go into the diagnostic mode and display the fault or at least the circuit where the problem is. I can assist you maybe with a service manual if you leave an email address.

Well, not unless your a blond women? LOL No I am only kidding you. I am not really sure if this will help you or not. Are you trying to repair your TV set yourself? If you are, you will need some sort of technical background I'm afraid. I wish these things were as easy as that to explain on what to do. One thing I do not understand is the 29 blinks. There is no such code for the 29 blinks.

It is a possibility that the optical engine is bad, but a professional should be the one to determine this.

Hi all,\r\n Ok, I have a Sony KDF-60XS955, about 5 years old. Yesterday, the picture started dimming noticably. Today, it's so dark it's unwatchable. I've read that it may not be a lamp issue, since...

Above is your user manual, below is your service and repair manual.

This may very well be a lamp problem, or it may be the "Driver" for the lamp, or indeed the Power Supply to that lamp, unfortunately one must troubleshoot these issues to isolate the actual problem, Please use these manuals, and you should soon be able to isolate and effect a repair.

Blue tint on bottom of screen

I have the same KDF60XS955 sony and have the same problem. I called sony customer support and was told there was a recall on the optical block for this tv. But the recall ended in Dec. of 2008. I was upset that they did not call or send out a notice to me. They should of had my information because I had a different issue that they sent someone out to fix a few years ago. They said it was an expensive fix, like over 1000 dollars. Instead of fixing it they offered me a deal on a smaller tv, a 52 inch sony. I could buy that one at a discount which is about 1100 dollars. I told them that I thought that was the worst deal I have ever heard of. Why would I spend about 4000 dollars for a tv 4 years ago only to be told that I could buy a smaller one today for 1100 dollars more. I said if I bought that 52 inch tv today, what would happen 4 years from today, am I going to be offered an even smaller one for more money again? I thought I was buying a top of the line tv back then, I only wished it would have lasted longer than this. Not happy!

No picture but has sound

The problem can be caused by a bad sustain board (Ysus Zsus) , the popping sound is often caused by a capacitor blowing up.
The TV must be taken apart and tested before eventually replacing sustain boards.

TV shuts off and red standby/timer lights blinks red until I power the set off. When it shuts down it does so with a very loud snap. When I turn it back on the screen is blue and has light blue...

The most common cause for what you are seeing is a shorted gun in the picture tube. When 2 elements (heater and cathode) of one of the guns inside the neck of the picture tube touch, that gun goes full on and overloads the flyback (high voltage) transformer. If it is in the blue gun, the screen will go bright blue with light blue "retrace" lines in it. The computer senses the overload and shuts the set off. At 2 years old the tech most likely tried removing the short by arcing between the elements. This works sometimes but the short often comes back a few months later. Another attempt at removing the short could be tried, and it might work this time, but it may or may not work for long. The ony other solution is to replace the picture tube but that would cost much more than the set is worth. A qualified tech will be able to tell you if this is the problem in your set.
