Restart your mac:
Safe Boot: Hold down the shift key after the chime until the Apple logo appears and the gear is moving.
It will take awhile but you will be asked to login.
Go to your Applications folder> Utilities and launch Disk Utility.
In the left side column, highlight your drive and repair permissions.( button down below)
Empty the trash.

LCD Display Problems with Apple 15" PowerBook G4 Aluminum 1.25 GHz Mac Notebook

During boot-up, Apple logo heavily pixelated. After boot-up, display a riot of colors and vertical lines with nothing readable. External monitor works well

I'll appreciate any input.

Mac book pro. Black screen cannot start but with boot sound

Have you tried connecting an external monitor.

A boot chime means the Mac has passed POST, that the screen remains black initially suggests there is a problem getting image to screen which could mean a bad cable to the LCD or the LCD display its self is having problems.

By connecting to an external display you verify the graphics on the logic board is functional, and it could get you up and running till the display problem is fixed.

Also try powering up and when you hear the chime, hold down the COMMAND+OPTION+P+R keys, and keep holding them till the machine has chimed 3 times, this will reset the 'BIOS' in case there is a glitch there stopping the display from showing up.

Mac book air 13" i stuck on the startup. It does not go beyond the apple and the circle going around and around. Please help

Reboot your Mac with Command-R held down to see whether it can boot into Recovery Mode and if so, follow Apple's instructions for using Disk Utility to diagnose your hard drive. If it can't boot into Recovery Mode, take it in to an authorized Apple repair shop.

My MacBook Pro will power up but in the center of the sreen it has a box with a circle and a line and the a ? in center of box.The box and circle just flash.

This is a sign that your hard drive may have failed. If you have the original boot CD/DVD for your computer, I would recommend putting that in the computer, power it up and hold down the C key to boot up from that disk, and run the "Disk Utility" program to see if your hard drive has officially failed, or if you just have a corrupted file.
Best recommendation though, would be to make an appointment at your local Apple store, and have a Genius take a look at it. If you are under warranty then you'll be taken care of, but if you haven't been backing up your data you may lose your information.
If you are out of warranty, the cost for a replacement drive is usually less than $250.

My macbook won't boot up - there's a flashing Apple logo and then the "no" symbol (circle with a diagonal line through it) and they blink back and forth... What did I do, and how can I fix it?

Well.....you seem ;like a nice person. Just put in a new hard drive. Then, get a small laptop hard drive enclosure and pick out the files and stuff you want by readin the HD though that. And, if you're young enough, you jsu get to start over and forget the other hard drive.

That Simple

My mac book turns on but theres only a gray screen that has a picture of a file with a question mark beside it

Your pram battery or hard drive has failed. Find a start up CD/DVD and boot from it and try and repair the drive. If the drive is seen it has forgotten or lost its "blessing" as the boot drive. Go to control panel and choose the hard drive as the boot device. If you cant see the hard drive then the hard drive has failed for whatever reason.

IBook never completes loading, stuck at ble progress bar

I am running off memory, but I belive you can also hold either Option or Command key at chime startup and it will give you a visual option with booting to hard drive or disk drive.

Try that and see if it will show the option to boot from CD.

I would suggest probably reinstalling OS X

MBP Graphic Chip Failing

Flickering screen, solid horizontal or diagonal lines of light, start up but no screen. Connect another display to the DVI port, if you get a signal, the display is toast, if not- the GPU is. APPLECARE?
