The motherboard of your computer has two IDE and two SATA connections.
There is no upper limit of the drive size (at least nothing you have to worry about if you have WInXP, Vista or Linux installed)

Attention!!! - I heard from many people that HP (Compaq) has disabled the SATA connectors on your motherboard (ASUS A7V8X-LA)!!!
If you want to be on the safe side (and I would definitely recommend that) go and get an IDE drive. There are many good drives around with 500GB of storage.

If you have any more questions, just come back here and leave a comment - I'm happy to help.

There is no practical limit to the capacity of the hard drive on your system. Very old systems had trouble recognizing large capacity drives but your system does not have that problem. As long as you put a standard physical size 3.5" drive in there it will work. Even if some extreme misfortune happened and your computer would not recognize it right away the manufacturer includes software to overcome that problem.

Hi there. There is no limit to the size of the hard drive that you want to install. It just depends on your budget, and whether you want an internal drive or an external drive. I have a desktop which uses an internal 160GB as my main drive, and a 750GB external USB drive. The make of your pc doesn't make any difference.

The good thing about having an external drive, is that I can connect it to any desktop/laptop and still access the files.

Hope that helps.

Tim

I have a compaq presario CQ80 lap top. I am getting an error that the HDD needs to be replaced. It has a 160 gb hdd, and I would like to replace it with something bigger. I cant seem to find any ac

the only thing you need to know is if it is a sata or ide hard drive (if you look at the end of the drive if it has a lot of little holes it's an ide) then shop for whatever size drive you want i.e 250GB 2.5" hard drive. Because it's for a laptop it will have to be a 2.5" hard drive.

Can you add a second hard drive to a compaq presario 5150?

If you can there will be an empty compartment next to the one that is currently holding you hard drive. I am betting not but look and see.

I am having HP pav DV6663 laptop . Currently i am facingthe problem #10008 - Replace the hard disk message while i tried dignostic test for harddrive. Is my hard disk is crshed, and now unusable? whats...

This message is generated when the hard disk has failed completely, at a hardware level = it busted.
You must replace the disk, no way around that - a new better/bigger one will cost you about $40

Need to replace hard-drive. What are my options?

The specs say that you have a 60Gb. hard drive. If the unit is less than 2 years old, you should be able to install a 200-300 GB. hard drive without any issues. The older laptops have a 137 GB. limit on hard drive partition space. You still can put a larger capacity drive, but you will have to partition the drive into c: 137GB, then the second partition can be any size.

If I could be of further assistance, let me know. If this helps or solves the issue, please rate it and give a testimonial for my response

Thanks, Joe

I think it is the same as HP. When you undo the cover just pull it right out by the small plastic. No screws holding the drive.

Compaq lap top presario f700 won't do any thing

try taking the hard drive and memory cards out then turning the computer back on without hard drive and memory cards for 1 minute then power it off (unplug it ) then put the memory cards in only then plug cord in turn unit on for 1-3 minutes then power down (unplug it) then add hard drive make sure there is no power going to the computer when adding the hard drive to the unit. at this point do let the unit set for 8 hours then try rebooting it should restore itself. if this don't work sorry there is a limit for what I $hare online.

Compaq Presario

as big as you want. The OS would be the only thing that has size limitations, not the PC.
