Re: Black spots

A solution/suggestion from the internet:
Make a boil wash (with no clothes and detergents) put into the powder drawer a cup of bicarbonate of soda.
It should clean the machine and move out the bad smell or grease.

I have a front loading machine also and am not willing to have to constantly clean out the machine; the soap and fabric softeners you use are building up between the inner and outer drums (and on the drum itself sometimes). Because the machines door is so tightly sealed (to prevent water leakage) the smell from this buildup is awful. I finally found the solution.
MAGGIE'S SOAP NUTS -- they are all natural (grow on trees) and will remove the grime from your drum and also clean your clothes (you won't even need fabric softener anymore). Stop using commercial detergents and fabric softeners and start using Maggie's Soap Nuts.
They are not very cheap but they work great --
I have found that making a liquid out of the soap nuts and storing it in a bottle works better than putting them in the sack cloth they come with (because front loaders do not agitate constantly like regular machines, the cloth bag sits on the clothes and sometimes leaves a stain -- the liquid will not leave a stain.
YOU WILL SOLVE YOUR PROBLEM AND HAVE SOFTER CLOTHES TO BOOT (without fabric softener so you save some money there). They are also better for septic tanks, the environment and your health!
I believe Whole Foods sells them and they are also on the internet at

Note: Also go to -- they are going to buy these in bulk to cut the cost in half but don't have them yet. You should be able to buy them there soon. Run some of this thru your machine with hot water before washing your clothing to clean out the buildup that is already in the machine.

My laundry is getting black spots from my Samsung washer I don't know why and how

if you use powder detergent and the machine is some years old . it is more than likely that the build up of power ( black greasy like substance) is breaking away in the wash action and being left on the clothes

I seem to get gray color stuff like real small pieces of paper in my washing machine tub after each load, do have any ideas

Hi cdriver- this is a first! - I know of black/grey sand like substances inside F&P washers coming from inside damaged bellows. The only way to find out for sure is to actually remove the inner bowl out of the machine, an outside chance of nasties build up beneath.

If you wish to DIY then I will guide you thru - let me know or look up the other postings in regards to Fisher & Paykels - the instructions have been posted here and there.

Please be careful - make sure power is off, if you aint too sure do not proceed as you could be worse off.

I have a simpson 7.5 kgs washing machine front loader. My clothes are getting black oil spots. I am not sure what is causing. please can you help me . how to resolve this issue? Or is it better for me to...

I have seen this many times. It is due to water not desolving the soaps sufficiently. It forms a blanket on the inside drum and eventually breaks away causing small particles to find its way onto your clothing. You are in a catch 10 situation because if you apply a cleaning agent or lots of hot water to flush the inner tub, it is going to get very much worse as the undesolved soaps breaks away.A technician is needed to split the 2 drums to gain access to the contaminated areas and clean properly with a HPwasher. If you decided to replace the washer, try and connect to a hot water tap or rince with hot water at least 3 times a week.

Maytag Nepturn TL FAV6800 Grey spots/debris on clothing

Hello davidsonrepl,

I was waiting with someone with more experience to post back on your issue. I haven't experienced this issue it but I would not rule out a transmission seal failure causing your oily grey substance in the wash tub. If you want to investigate further you can get the Service Manual from here

take a look at page 38 and on and see if you feel OK with a tear down to the transmission.

Black, tar-like spots on some clothes after wash

Its probably coming from the outer drum of your machine. That's what holds the water. Your inner drum, what you see, is full of holes and allows the water to pass through in the drum and wash the clothes. that outer drum gets crud in it which then passes through the holes onto your clothes. the easiest way to get rid of it is to get a product called "affresh" from W mart or the big Hardware chains and follow the directions. Good Luck

Where the front panel and the top of the machine meet, there is a crack. When using a flashlight, you will see 4 items in this crack. 2 are green 2 are black. The black peices are support studs, ignore them. The green one's are clips that hold the top to the front. Using a putty knife (easier) or a small flat head screw driver (a bit more difficult) push one of the green clips towards the rear of the machine while lifting on the top. Only lift slightly (too far and it will bind on those support studs I told you about) Now press the clip on the other side and lift the top up. Now you should see your tub (from a new perspective) you will see a plastic ring around the top of the tub. Disconnect the green clamp on the hose towards the left rear using a pair of pliers or channel locks. The ring is held down with clips all of the way around the tub. By pressing down over each clip and pulling the lips slightly forward, you can remove the top ring. The rest is the easiest part. In the center of the basket, there is a small cap. Rremove this with a small flat head screwdriver. Remove the bolt that is underneath the cap. Now lift the whole basket out. If your small items get too far (ie, the pump), remove the back panel. On the left hand side you will see a small black hose towards the botom. this connects to the pump. Forign objects can ldge in here keeping it from draining also. If you disconnect the hoses, have something handy for all of the water to go into (large wet vac is usually the best). Drop the 3 #20 torx screws and the pump will come down and you can remove the obstructions.

Whirlpool calypso washer black streaks

to all that are having a problem with these calypso washers... if you have paid for a repair then you need to check out the lawsuit... and see if it applies to you.
but if you are getting a mark or a residue on your clothes, then look at the inner wash plate gasket, where it meets with the outer stainless steel tub. if there is a gap between the gasket and the tub then thats where the marks are coming from.
it happens alot and thats not covered by the settlement, but its not too bad to replace the inner wash plate. you need to remove the cabinet, then the tub cover and the innerwash plate dome. then 6 screws and the cover will come off.
replacing the inner wash plate will solve the stains and get you a few more years of use until you have to buy a new washer as more items may fail.
