Could be a bad motor or door switch. If it runs for awhile then shuts off it is a motor.

SOURCE: GE dryer starts but..... stops

The motor switch is not working properly. You can try removing lint from motor area around the end where the wires attach. This may free switch. If it still won't work you need a motor.

SOURCE: Dryer won't stay running

I had the same problem with my kemore. Thank goodness I still had it under warranty.
The tech said the door latch was just slightly ajar. This is common he said that when we take clothes out we let the door close to hard or gets ajar for leaning in to take clothes out.
He readjusted it and I have never had a problem with it again.
Hope this helps

SOURCE: starter knob on GE dryer came off. Dryer won't turn on.

If it turns hard, the timer may need replaced. But if you can turn the shaft with a pair of pliers and the dryer works, just get a new knob.

SOURCE: GE Dryer will not stay

Does the drum turn? when you press the button? Some of these have a broken belt switch. If the belt is broken the motor will run but then shut down as soon as you let off the start switch. I looked up your model and yours does have this interlock switch (broken belt switch) It might be the switch or a broken belt. themobilian_229.jpgthemobilian_230.jpgthemobilian_231.jpgthemobilian_232.jpgthemobilian_233.jpg

My GE dryer starts when the door closes. Prior to this, you turned a knob to start the dryer. Where should I start.

I had the EXACT same problem. GE service technician just left my house about 30 minutes ago ( around 12.45pm ET - 6/9/2011). The problem was that the "Rotary Start Switch Regulator" stopped working and the technician replaced it. Simple fix which was solved in about 10 minutes. He had the spare part on his truck.

I HAVE A GE DRYER DBXR453GA2WW. We replaced the belt. The start knob is missing but we can still get it turn on by manual turning the apparatus underneath the knob. However, the dryer will not stay on.

If the dryer starts but will not stay running, the cientrifugal switch in the motor is likely faulty. The motor will probably need to be replaced.

I HAVE A GENERAL ELECTRIC CLOTHES DRYER. MY STARTER KNOB WILL NOT STAY ON. WE HAVE CHANGED THE SW ROTAR START BUTTON BIT STILL WILL NOT STAY ON. WHAT ELSE COULD BE THE PROBLEM? IS THERE A REPAIR MANUEL FOR...

When you open the door there is a "kill" switch that shuts off the dryer. It could be stuck physically or electrically. If the motor comes on at all then the motor is not the problem. If you have replaced the control knobs then this "kill" switch would be very high on my list of suspects.

Dryer stops when I release the start rotary switch knob.

This sounds all right on the short term. But eventually it will go out. to replace the part is not that expensive or hard to replace.
