Actually hardrocko it is not a DLP light engine so the link you put up is completely wrong. DLP TVs have light engine and LCD projection have optical blocks. These are two totally different technologies. It is possible to fix this problem by cleaning the blue lcd chip. This link is more efficient in helping you solve your problem. It is for a sony LCD projection but very similiar to the 60in LG. and these two site should help you fix your problem if these don't fix it then unfortunately you will have to invest in a new optical block which will cost roughly $700. I've got the RU60SZ10 which is pretty much the same TV and these two sites have helped me tremendously.

I have a round red spot on my tv. Takes up about a third of the screen.. I see it easily when the broadcast is background is black. While watching normal scenes it appears some faint lines are showing up...

The problem is that the polarized lens between the red lcd and the prizm has gotten to hot. This causes the polarize material to burn off the glass. It usually starts at the middle and will increase over time. I have been trying to find a source for this part. Hitachi does not have a part number for it in the service manual. Hitachi lists the complete optical block (light engine). The cost of an optical engine is $350-$500 + labor. The cost of the lens should be less than $10 if you could find a source. This is a piece of glass about 1" x 1 1/4" with a polarize film.

Sctratches on 46" lcd tv. Two of which is noticeable in dark scenes.(White lines) How do I fix this?

used thse methods myself
Vaseline Method
  1. Clean the surface of the screen.
  2. Take some Vaseline and fill the scratch with it.
  3. Gently wipe off the excess Vaseline, being careful not to press too deeply so as to leave some inside the scratch.
  4. Voila. This works because the optical density more closely matches the LCD face than air.

Pencil Eraser Method
  1. Find a pencil with a clean, soft eraser. It must have no pencil graphite on it as you won't want to smudge that on your monitor.
  2. Lightly rub the eraser over the scratch or nick on the screen.
  3. Keep rubbing until the scratch completely disappears

Red blotches

What you possibly have is dust on the green or blue lcd panel inside the optics assembly. Since the red is showing through the dust is not as bad on that lcd panel. I suggest having a service center attempt to clean the optics assembly, although replacement of the assembly may be required, some of the light engines are sealed systems.
