Question about Hotpoint RB757 Electric Kitchen Range

1 Answer

Plug in element burner

One of my electric elements gets red hot no matter what setting I use on the control knob. I swapped elements with the same result so I feel it is not the element but the temperature control.

Hello Miguel;

My name is Peter. I am a retired field service appliance technician.

There are two electrical components that will cause this problem. The most probable cause is the burner element. Each of your burner elements have a independent temperature sensor. The sensor controls the burner element temperature.
Substitution Part Number: 4453909 Cost: $85.00

This surface element (part number 4453909) is for electric ranges, including Whirlpool electric range model GJC3034RB00.
Unplug the range or shut off the house circuit breakers to disconnect electrical power to the range before replacing the surface element. Wear gloves to protect your hands when replacing surface element on your electric range.
This is a manufacturer substitution. Part may differ in appearance but is a functional equivalent to priorparts including 9759351.

PART NUMBER: 8523698 Cost: $71.00

The other less likely electrical component is Surface Element Control Switch. Each burner has a independent control switch.

Cost: $46.00

To check the switch: Remove the switch 2 contacts on the left. With a multi-meter, set the meter to the lowest Ohms (Omega Symbol). Put one meter lead on one switch contact and the other meter lead on the other contact. If the switch is good you meter will read "0" Ohms.

Element light stays on after all power control knobs are in off position?

Good Afternoon Cindy,

I see that you are having trouble with the element light staying on after all power control knobs have been put into the off position on your Frigidaire range, model# FEF366EC. The Element ON indicator lights will glow when one or more of the surface elements are turned ON. A quick glance at these indicator lights when cooking is finished is an easy check to be sure all control knobs are turned OFF. The Hot Surface indicator light will continue to glow AFTER the control knob is turned to the OFF position and will glow until the heating surface area has cooled sufficiently. I suggest resetting your appliance by shutting the power off at your home's circuit breaker for 2-3 minutes. Once power is restored, the first thing you will need to do is set the clock. You will do this by pressing the "clock" button, and then you will press and hold down either the up or down arrows until the correct time appears. Try turning the burner on that the indicator light stays on the most. When you turn it off if you are still having trouble with the element light staying on, I suggest contacting a local authorized technician. Hope this helps.

-Best Regards-

Could this be a User Interface,Board 316239500 part problem? or a Electronic Control Board part problem?

Normally, the E.O.C. (electronic oven control) only controls power the ehe bake/broil side for the oven. Doesn't control power to the element. If you have already replaced the infinite switch to that eye, the element itself could be faulty. There is a sensor inside the element that is supposed to communicate with the infinite switch to determine the proper cycling temp for what you selected.

Check the element connections for good tight connections in both connectors. If ok, swap the element with one of the same size working elements and see if the swapped element works. If it does, replace the element. If it doesn't, the control switch or switch connections are the problem.

Element Glows Red, can not regulate heat

you have a bad gas valve For that one specific burner. The valve is located right behing the selecter knob. You have to take all the knobs off and removve that plate to access them. You will see a switch. Remove the switch and right there is your valve. You need to turn both power and gas off when doing this repair.

Red light won't go out

If the indicator light you are referring to is the 'surface hot' light then the element has failed. Each element contains a sensor to detect when the element is hot, these sensors fail. The element will have to be replaced. If there is only one light to indicate hot surface, you will have to determine which element has failed.

If the indicator light you are referring to is the 'element on' light then the corresponding control switch has failed. Each control switch contains a switch that will illuminate a lamp to indicate a burner is on. This switch has probably stuck closed.
