U r saying that the laptop is overheating. I think it is from cpu overheating right. just to make sure that it is cpu overheating, just go to the following link and download the software around 1mb which displays each and every component heating levels.
from that you can find out the exact component.
http://www.cpuid.com/software.php

if cpu is heating then just replace the thermal interface material and the problem will be gone.
if the cpu thermal interface material is too old then this type of problems arises

Toshiba Satellite L500D is shutting down by itself OVERHEATING Clean the fan with compress Air ....> NO GO Need help Please or Any other Suggestion

Disassemble the laptop and remove the heatsink.
Remove all the dried up heatsink goo that's on the heatsink and processor.
Squeeze a small amount of QuickSilver heatsink compound onto the middle of the processor top.
Place the heatsink on the processor and move it in a couple small circles before locking the processor heatsink back in place.
Clean the air vents and cooling fins well while the unit is open.
This should fix any overheating issues you are having (assuming the fan is OK)
If the fan isn't running, replace it.

GOT AN ACER ASPIRE 5742Z AND THE FAN IS REALLY NOISY AND ALMOST ALL THE TIME ON

Without doubt symptomatic of overheating.(hence the fan trying to cool all the time)
You need to remove the bottom cover of the laptop and vacuum out any dust that has accumulated in the heatsink and fan area. You may have to on tis model, partly dismantle the laptop to get the heatsink and fan. Given the 2nd part of the problem you describe, this is no bad thing, as a niosy fan MIGHT indicate a dying fan bearing, if it is not just a matter of being clogged, a replacement with heatsink can be had for about a tenner on Ebay.

I must stress, do NOT use the laptop until you sort this, as overheating will eventually cause the graphics chip to unsolder

I have a acer travelmate 2420 and every time I watch a movie, after about 20 min, it automatically shuts-off as if the plug was pulled out; as in it doesn't shut down properly its just shuts -off Any help...

This sounds like an over heating problem, your laptop shuts down as a safety measure. The only solution for this is to have a professional service the unit.

My Dell 610D runs for about 15 minutes getting progressively hotter(speed fan) and then just stops working?

It sounds like the DELL is overheating and shutting down and if it cannot start up again straight away until it has cooled down then it is definitely a thermal overload (overheating) problem.
If the fan is OK then the fault is most likely dust clogging the fan and heatsink assembly.
The fix - loosen the dust from the vents, fan and heatsink assembly and vacuum/remove the dust off these components.
Use the laptop on a flat hard surface and/or place small pads to increase the height and ventillation to the laptop.
If the problem persists then there are products such as fan assisted cooling pads that you place the laptop on to provide addition cooling to the laptop,
If you continue to ignore this problem then eventually the CPU chip will fail.

Toshiba satellite a205-S5847 cuts off while working

You could have an overheating problem, The CPU shuts down when it overheats and the laptop won't bootup until the CPU has cooled down.
The overheating problems are caused by a faulty fan or the heatsink/fan assembly is clogged with dust which prevents proper cooling.
Check the fan to see it it spins freely, if not (it has a bearing problem) then replace the fan. Also remove and vacuum the dust off the fan and heatsink.

Can you determine weather the CPU fan is still working? This type of problem is almost certainly your CPU that is overheating.
