Question about Nintendo Super NES Console

Dead RF-out on SNES and vertical lines on Multi-out

A couple of years ago I thought my SNES had gone all dead on me. I got no picture or sound when turning on the power. It turned out to be the RF Out (the RF cable works fine on another SNES) that had gone dead.

So I bought an RGB cable, and the picture is much crisper than with the RF connection. But, I get these annoying vertical lines in some areas of the games. For example, in Super Metroid the equipment screen and Norfair backgrounds are full of vertical lines. Other areas look just fine.

I keep thinking there may be some relation between the problems. Any ideas on how to proceed with the troubleshooting would be appreciated.

I've already ruled out the AC adapter, RGB cable and the games. They all work fine on another SNES. The problem must be somewhere inside the console...

The problem is likely in the IC soldered to your SNES circuitboard. The cheapest way to solve your problem is to replace the whole SNES circuitboard. These boards run about 20 dollars, Google part SNSPT007 or SNSPT009, depending upon if you have the older or newer version SNES. There is no soldering involved, so it should be an easy fix if you can open your SNES.

Sound but, no picture on my super nintendo

I fixed the problem. It was only some dust in the connector, but I can't still understand why the RF out is broken.

SNES works but no color.

Sounds like your AV Multi-out port circuitry is shot. Yest it with an RF adapter, and if it works perfect with an RF adapter, that is the source of your troubles. I'm afraid that the cheapest solution is to buy a SNES motherboard (about $20.00), which is a lot cheaper than a repair shop soldering in new components to fix it. It's not something you can do on your own.. Google SNES Motherboards type 1 or 2

Vertical lines show up on my SNES picture of any game.

Do you have a third party AC adapter for it? If you aren't using the original one, check its voltage. Mine was a 9V instead of a 10V and while it allowed the machine to run, I got visual distortion effects similar to what you describe. If it isn't a 10V adapter, go to Amazon and get a real one instead of a cheap third party one. I got this one (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00009ZKWC) and it works great!

Horizontal Line through middle of TV screen

That sounds like simple ring-cracks in the vertical circuit, most likely the vertical Ic itself... On the printed circuit side of the Tv look at the vertical Ic and examine it carefully under some magnification where each pin of the Ic solders to the board. See if you can find any cracks in those solder connections.

I turned the G2 voltage up and noticed a white screen with flyback lines, frame ok. I detected two badly soldered double diode rectifiers in the secondary part of the power supply ! I checked all other joints, and everything was ok !! success
White horizontal line (no vertical deflection)
Check / replace R548, R549
Sound but no picture except for a couple of horizontal colour lines
Replaced the frame chip TDA8356, set now ok

No Picture

Well hard to say really without more to go on so I'll just be able to guess as what i've seen or had with this set. Most of the time when you lose Picture and still have sound its a vertical sweep fault. The set cuts out the brightness so the tubes dont get burn lines in them. Another fault could be with the HI Voltage distribution block. Now to fix it if you know how to read a schematic then you can buy one get a multimeter and start taking some voltage measurements around the Vert output. If you never done anything like this then You'll have to decide if you wanna spend more money on a sets thats only seven years old? Good Luck
