Maytag bottom freezer ice maker problem of ice removal

The ice maker in our bottom freezer has had a problem since new which is about 5 years, in that the last cube in the row will not eject properly. The rest of the cubes are ejected properly but the last one toward the rear sticks and the ice maker growls continually until I eject it manually. The dealer replaced it several times when it was in warranty but we both gave up trying to fix it. It is noisy and a pain to have to try and get into the freezer area to eject it. I have resorted to spraying PAM into the pocket for now but it doesnt always help. The ice maker makes plenty of ice otherwise and the water line/filter is OK.

Usually low water pressure to the fridge will cause this problem. Not getting enough water to the ice maker will cause the cubes to be too small and get jammed easier. Check to see if you are using a self piercing saddle valve on your water line. If so change it to a drill type valve. This will increase water pressure to the fridge. New ice makers will not solve the problem.

Ice maker does not shut off makes ice rill jammed then water goes everywhere

It sounds like you have a malfunctioning ice maker that could lead to future problems. The start device on some models of refridgerator for maytag and whirlpool have been recalled. If your appliance was manufactured in the last 5-10 years you may be having an issue with this component. Mine recently caught on fire at this device that is located near the compressor. If you would like to be a part of the petition for a recall on this appliance contact me at

My refrig stop making ice after I changed the water filter. I had the filter out for about 3 hrs, would this cause the problem?

Hi, first , pour about 2/3 cup of water into the ice maker . If if freezes , and dumps , replace the water valve. If it does not dump the cubes , replace the ice maker. After pouring the water into the ice maker , remove the bottom kick panel , and clean the bottom coils , of dust , lint , pet hair , etc , as this will raise the freezer temp . An ice maker has to be 5 degrees , to operate , correctly . If ice maker starts working , after cleaning the coils , GREAT ! ( it does happen ) .

Take care

Bottom of Maytag Freezer Ices Up

You have a plugged defrost drain. easiest way to fix it is unload freezer compartment defrost all of the ice, then remove the 2 screws that hold the rear cover in place about half way down the back wall. once this is removed use hot water to flush out the aluminum evap pan at the bottom of the coil. once it is cleared i will usually pur a little bleach in to kill any algae build up.\

be sure to unplug the refrig and use caution not to cut your self on the evap coil as the fins are very sharp..
