Blue screen of death on a tv??

I've got a Sony KP-53V45, had it for awhile and as most tv's get when they are older it started taking awhile to warm up and turn on. Now when it does come on I have a very blurry picture for about ten seconds then it all goes blue with white wavey lines arcing across the screen. Then after awhile the blue will go out as well and it's all black. Still have sound, but nothing else happens. I've left the set on for about ten minutes after this happens to see if the red and green will come back, and occasionly they will but only intermittently. Any ideas?

Standby light flashing

Try connecting the TV directly to a different wall outlet and check. If the issue persists, try power resetting the TV. Turn Off the TV and remove the power plug from the wall outlet for 1 minute and reconnect it and check the operation. If the issue persists, then the TV requires service.

I cannot get the closed captioned off the screen

I assume you've made sure the captions are turned off on the TV through the setup menu. Are you using this set with a cable box, DTV converter or satellite receiver? Most of these devices have closed-captioning themselves. Make sure you have captioning turned off there as well.

Tv comes on for a few minutes then goes off

If you take off the front bottom panel of the tv wich is easy. Then you will see 6 tuning knobs at the bottom middle of the tv .the top 6 control contrast for the lights dont mess with those. the bottom 3 are the power to each is bottom left if your screen went blue it makes sense that the red is starting to go but if you turn down the power to it left 1/8 turn it should fix it for awhile .Its easy.

Sony KP-53V45 color issues

When ever a tube starts to short or is shorted set always will have over bearing drive lines then shut down like RED if it was bad, set would come on long enough for red lines across set then shut down this is the same with all 3 tubes. Also if you think it might be green tube disconnected green CRT board on neck of green tube if set comes on and plays then it is green tube do all 3 tube this way one at a time this will tell you if you have other problems.

Screen Flashing

In a Sony TV, the most common cause of the picture flashing on and off is a weak picture tube. When the set was new, it took about 5 to 10 seconds for the picture to appear once the set was turned on. This is normal. If you have been noticing that it has been taking longer and longer to first appear, this is the clear signal that one of the picture tubes is getting tired. There is a circuit called IK Blanking that monitors each picture tube and adjusts them as the tubes age, so you always see a good picture. When one of the tubes has weakened so much that it cannot produce enough brightness in the picture, the circuit shuts the picture off completely. I guess Sony does not want you to see a tired, dull picture. When the tube is right on the edge of being too weak to keep the picture on, the picture will flash on and off, and it will also take much longer beofre it first turns on. The good news is that the Sony picture tubes always respond beautifully to reactivation (CRT Recharge) but you will need a qualified tech familiar with Sony projection sets to handle that repair for you.
