Question about Biostar P4M80-M4 VIA P4M800 Socket 478 ATX MB w/LAN MBB-P4M80-M4 Motherboard
My computer has a p4m80-m4 motherboard with the latest bios version, 4m80m609bs. The motherboard is revision 7.0.
During mp3 playback, there were annoying sound glitches that sounded like squeeks or pops. The sounds were completely random. The computer also crashed at random with a blue screen and random error messaged (rarely the same message.)
Playing a video game was an exercise in frustration because the game crashed fairly quickly after loading. Also, the video on the game messed up at random. Sometimes sprites (the characters that move) had randomly colored pixels around them; other times the loading screen was rearranged like a puzzle.
Memtest86 showed the memory to be bad on the 2nd or 3rd pass, and showed that all of it was bad. I put the memory in another computer and it tested fine in that machine.
I tried turning off all the onboard accessories (IDE, sound video, serial & usb ports, parallel port etc) and inserted spare expansion cards to replace those functions, but nothing worked
I finally found the solution after months of frustration!! I went into the BIOS under the 'frequency/voltage control' then selected 'cpu voltage regulator' and changed the setting from 'default' to '+0.05V'.
The computer is now rock solid and the game has not crashed at all despite 4 straight hours of play. I have had no glitches in sound or video.
a 6ya expert can help you resolve that issue over the phone in a minute or two.
