Netgear WGT624 v2 - wireless connects ok, wired doesn't

I seem to have the opposite problem of everyone else... my wireless laptop connects to the internet beautifully via the router (Speedstream modem connected to router), but my wired PC won't. It did originally, but now I can no longer even access the router through the wired PC. I've rebooted everything to no avail. Both systems running WXP SP3. Any help would be MOST appreciated! Thanks

Well, there are several options to look at.
First, make sure that your software settings are ok.

  • Check Control Panel -> Network Connections. Is your LAN connection enabled? Check your TCP/IP settings and set IP address and DNS to Obtain automatically.
  • Can you ping your router? Open a command prompt (Win-key+R, type cmd and in the next window ping http://192.168.1.1
  • Do you have MAC address filtering enabled on your router? If so, disable it for now. Also check if your router reports your PC as connected. Go to the main menu of the browser interface, see under the Maintenance heading and select Attached Devices.
Then check the hardware:
  • Test your Ethernet cable connections and replace the cable with another one for testing. (If you don't have a spare one, switch it with the one from your modem to your router. If your laptop now looses it's internet connection, you know it's this cable.)
  • Are the green and yellow lights on your NIC (network card) blinking? Although very rare, but these things can die (had that before). If that's the case then you have to replace the card. If it the onboard-NIC (part of the motherboard), get a PCI card and put it in one of the empty slots.
That's all I can think of right now. Let me know about yor findings and then we take it from there. If you have any more questions, just come back here and leave a comment - I'm happy to help.

So I have a little problem. I'm trying to find out how to connect 2 wireless routers together from across the house. The internet side is connected to a Linksys wireless router (WRT54G). This is located in...

you need a wireless ethernet bridge(like wet54g/wet610n) which will grab signals wirelessly from u're primary router wrt54g,& then a ethernet cable from wireless bridge will be connected to one of the lan port of u'rs netgear router(otherwise u will not be able to do file & printer sharing between 2 routers)Remember, the ip address of all 3 devices shold be of same class.

Netgear WGT624 router won't connect to the internet

I am in the UK and have found through experience the Netgear's seem to work perfect on a BT line (equivalent of AT & T)
but not on the cable.

I would suggest purchasing a Linksys by Cisco WRT54GL Wireless-G Broadband Router as these seem to install in minutes,
saves me hours of wasted time when setting up wireless networks.

Cannot connect to Netgear wireless router adminstrator page

Maybe that's not the correct IP address.
If you have Windows XP:
1. Click Start
2. Click Run
3. Type cmd and press enter
4. Type ipconfig and press enter
5. Look for your gateway address, that's the address to put into your address bar.

Vista:
1. Start
2. In "Start Search" type cmd
3. Right click cmd that appears on the top and click run as administrator.
4. Type ipconfig and press enter
5. Look for gateway address

Have no set up instructions for the wgt624 wireless router

do you have the cd that came with it? if not, everything can be downloaded here

http://kbserver.netgear.com/products/WGT624v1.asp

there 4 different routers in the wgt624 family. this is the first. check your label to be sure it isn't a later model chipset such as v2, v3, v4. if so use the download link at the netgear site to get the correct downloads for your specific model.

Wireless connection

Make sure that your computer is getting a valid IP address from the router. If your wireless network is secured, you might as well consider checking the wireless settings.

As you say that, you are able to go online with the modem, connect your modem- router and laptop witha cable and check if you are able to go online with the router wired first, if yes, then the w/ls settings has to be checked..open your w/ls network connection, remove your preferred wireless network and then try to reconnect again and check.. if you are not able to gon online wired with the router, disconnect power cables from modem- router , wait for 10 sec, and reconnect it , wait till all the lights come up and then reconnect, check if you are able to go online if not your router has to be reconfigured,,

plz check and revert back in case of any issues
