Try adjusting the aspect ratio. on widescreen movies or shows you will still get the black bands on the top and bottom. if you play with the aspect ratio you can sometimes get rid of it

Samsung TSL2793HF - Slight Right Side Pincushion and Horz Line Bottom to Top Until the TV Warms up

Yes, this is rare but I have seen it before--not fixable if it is what I think it is----It is what is called a Dome effect---the shadow mask in the picture tube is actually contracting and or expanding depending on temperature---

Directly behind the phosphor coating (the stripes that you see on the screen) is a metal screen--the holes or perforations in it line up with the stripes on the phosphor screen.

Some masks either have a material or a defect causing the dome effect----Not likely to be anything else---a Pin amp problem will not usually act the way you describe but a shadow mask inside the picture tube will act exactly that way.

I just changed from Comcast Cable to Verizon Fios. Since the change I am unable to get a full picture on Fox News. There is a narrow horizontal picture with 1-2" black bands across the top and...

This is a function of your set-top box (STB), and has nothing to do with the TV. I know several FiOS users with the same trouble, and it's annoying but there isn't anything you can do to "fix" it. What is really strange is that the screen size can change even on the same channel, depending on the particular program being broadcast. It has to do with the aspect ratio of the programming from the provider.

Brownish band across top of screen

Please press the WIDE button on the remote repeatedly to remote the Bands. If the issue persists, you may need to change the Aspect ratio to 4:3 on the Video source that you have connected to the TV. Check the link for more info:

Picture

Depending on the manufacturer of the cable box, there will be a menu somewhere regarding aspect ratio using the terms - cropped, zoom, and a few other terms as well. You probably want cropped, which will cut some of the sides off, but you wouldn't miss the picture as a whole when view at full screen. Hope this helps!

civilman, the first set has either no high voltage or is collapsed vertically, until someone checks for high voltage there is no concrete answer, the AV27730 is vertical collapse from your description, either the voltage to the vertical IC is missing or the vertical IC has failed, not a big deal cost-wise, hope this answers your questions, if not e-mail me back, good luck, BMW Rider

There is a band developing

The band is developing across both the top and bottom of the screen it is called cinemascope picture. it is a vertical failure. it is not a major problem. it is on you accrding to cost of repair. it is due to less supply or part failure in vertical section.
