Question about HP Pavilion dv5000t Notebook
I have a hp dv5000 laptop I suspect problem with original power supply output 18.5volt 3.54 amp I have another power supply which fits into laptop but has output 19volts 4.74amps---can I use this power supply with 0.5volt higher rating? Could it cause damage? Than Steven
The following three conditions should be met for you to use this charger safely.
1) Output Voltage is within +/- 5% of your old charger's output.
For example, if your old charger provides 19.5V, then you can use a charger that provides 20.5V or 18.5V.
2) Output Current is the same or higher than that of your old charger.
For example, if your original adapter provides 3.42 Amps, then you can use a charger that provides 3.42 Amps, 3.9 Amps or higher.
3) Connector tip must fit securely into your laptop.
So it would do no harm to your laptop with a 19V 4.74a adapter working on hp dv5000.

As you have found... half a volt at that amerage should be just fine...
If it helps, I just bought an aftermarket replacement of the correct voltage and amperage for my nx9010 from eBay for $15AU delivered. It'd probably help when it comes time to sell your laptop =-]
