Question about GE Dishwashers

1 Answer

I have a GE dishwasher with the following model number: GSD3230F00WW. Last night, while the dishwasher was in the clean cycle, a buzzing/grinding sound came from underneath the dishwasher. I removed the access panel to try to isolate the sound. It appeared to come from a solenoid that was connected to an arm that opened and closed something. I am not sure if the solenoid is bad or if there was something that was preventing it from operating properly. I moved the arm to which it was connected, and it seemed to move just fine. Any thoughts or recommendations would be greatly appreciated. The dishwasher is about 8 years old. Thanks. You can email me directly at pittstar63@gmail.com

The part you are referring to is the pump out solenoid. ( part # WD21X10071) When the dishwasher is suppose to pump out, power is applied to the solenoid and it swings a flap inside the pump assembly to divert the pumped water out the drain instead of up into the dishwasher. If there are no signs of water leakage at the solenoid arm, I'd just ignore the noise. Note: Newer models use a separate drain pump and no longer use the pump out solenoid.

Sounds like there is something in the filter trap that is right before the mini disposal that is a fan blade, on top of the motor.

Kenmore Ultrawash Quiet Guard 5 making buzzing/grinding noise

I have a very similar dishwasher, with a very similar problem. I fixed it by removing debris from the water evacuator pump located towards the front of the bottom of the machine (the last motor before the drain hose. In my case, grape stems had clogged it up. Once emptied, it purrs once again. NOTE: don't disassemble the motor, just flush it out, there is an o-ring gasket that is a bear to re-install.
