Dongle Where can I get a new dongle for my designer 1? At the viking store, I have to buy an upgrade for over $300 that will include the dongle. I dont want to upgrade....cant afford it....just want a new dongle ....Help..... Thanks, Linda

    the embroidery software I have is the VIP customizing software that came with the machine in 2001. I have not upgraded.

    The Designer 1 does not use a dongle. Depending on its age, it may us a USB stick to transfer designs from the computer to the machine but it does not use a dongle. A dongle is for use with an optional embroidery software package and the software will not work without it. Do you have software and, if so, what version is it?
    If you have a 3D or 4D dongle that is damaged or no longer working it may be returned to Husqvarna Viking by an authorized dealer and a replacement will be sent for a nominal fee.
    If you do not have the remains of a dongle in your possession there is no way to get one without purchasing a new software package. If yours was lost or stolen, check with your home owners insurance agent about coverage.

    I have the 3D software and Mine does use the Dongle and it is still in use I just have to try to keep it in one place because if it is bumped at all it will not read to the computer

I believe that the information that you have been given is correct. The VIP dongle is no longer available.
As for the second part of the question, do you have a damaged dongle or has it been lost completely? If it has been lost, there is no way to replace it without buying a new software package.

Husqvarna viking dongle
Hello, try this :) I don't know if you have 5D or 6D but go to your configure screen on your computer software. Next look for "Reset all Modules" go ahead and click on that you will Not loose any of your designs. If that doesn't work then try reloading your Dongle or putting your Dongle into a different USB Port on your computer if you have one. I hope this helps?? If not let me know and I know the store manager at the Husqvarna Viking Store near me and she is pretty good at figuring this stuff out :) Happy Sewing! Shella

You will have to maintain an XP computer or buy new software there is no fix for your problem.It's the electronic age the old software was written for the XP operating system.When MS changed the operating system Husqvarna Viking had to design new software it's that simple.Don't blame the manufacturer Microsoft made the changes that created the problem. www.sewvac.com

My laptop which has windows 7 on it does not recognize mmy dongle
there is an update for windows 7 and dongles at the husqvarna viking website.

From Husqvarna Viking website -

When installing the 4D Embroidery System onto Windows 7 computers, the dongle drivers may not initially work correctly, as the 4D Embroidery System installs a set of dongle drivers which were created before Windows 7.
Download and install the latest dongle drivers prior to installing the 4D Embroidery System. Failure to do this, may result in the "Dongle driver not found (E0009)" when you try to open the 4D modules.
Please follow the steps below to install the latest dongle drivers BEFORE installing the 4D Embroidery System
  1. Download and install the latest Dongle Drivers.
  2. Insert your 4D Dongle.
  3. Install your 4D Embroidery System software (and all updates).
  4. Open your 4D Embroidery System software to confirm that your dongle is working correctly.
If you installed the 4D Embroidery System software before installing the latest dongle drivers and if you experience problems such as the error message "Unable to start hasplms service..."; download and install the latest Dongle Drivers.

I have a reader-writer box for a Viking Rose machine that is missing the dongle. Is there any place I could get just the dongle?
The dongle is only available with the software when you buy it. The dongle alone doesn't run the reader/writer box. The dongle is the code key for the software that allows you to send designs to the reader/writer. So purchasing new software (which also gets you the new dongle) is what you'll need to do if you want to send designs to the programmable card. Another issue you may have is that the older reader /writer box that uses a parallel port hook up, doesn't work with the new software. So if you have an old reader /writer, you'll also need a new usb reader / writer box. The new reader / writer also comes with a new programmable card.

Dongle for Designer 1 not recognized in XP or Vista
Drivers can be found on Husqvarna Viking website (search for VIP software) under "other links". Here's the direct link - http://www.husqvarnaviking.com/us/8588_4197.htm

I don't think 3D/VIP is compatible with Vista but should be compatible with XP. Download and install latest driver per Husqvarna Viking website.

take it to an authorized Husqvarna Viking dealer and they should be able to help you purchase a new one. Check the Husqvarna Viking website for dealer location closest to you.

What Version of VIP customizing is for Designer 1 USB stick
When you purchase the Husqvarna Viking software it comes with a code key called a "Dongle". It plugs into a usb port and "unlocks" the software. You can't just load the software and have it work without the dongle and you cannot just purchase a dongle. That software is about 3 versions old and is not being supported anymore by Viking. Their new software starts at $400 and is called 4D embroidery. Their web site shows what it can do.

Dongle issue
The Designer SE software does not use a dongle. If you are attempting a "Smart Update" on the Designer SE and it asks if you use a dongle, just say no and the update on the machine will run.
If you have 3D or 4D software, it uses the dongle and it will be USB. Download the latest driver for your software from the Husqvarna Viking website. The link is through the homepage at Husqvarnaviking.com/us . Click links on the left side of the screen for 4D Software, Help & Updates, and Other Useful Software at the bottom of the page. This will have the latest 3D driver. 4D will require the latest update to the software and a firmware upgrade to the dongle. Run Smart Update on the software and then get the firmware update that is directly below the 3D HASP driver on the Other Useful Software page.
