My Kenmore dishwasher leaves the dishes slightly dirty, even though I've been hand rinsing everything beforehand. The glasses have small dried pieces of food on them, and the plates, though somewhat shiny, have a very slight dull finish. I notice that the top of the dishwasher door does not seem very clean. Interestingly, this happened once before, and the problem miraculously went away for quite some time--I never knew what happened. But, alas, the dirty dishes are back, and I don't know what to do. I did try a cycle with vinegar, to no avail. I checked the bottom of the unit, and noticed that the plastic "screw" was not thoroughly tightened on the large sprayer. Excited because I thought that was causing the issue, I ran the dishwasher that day only to discover unclean dishes when the cycle had completed. I'm using Jetdry, and have tried different detergents, but performance has not improved. Is there a solution? Thanks in advance.

Re: Kenmore Dishwasher 17369 not thoroughly cleaning
The first is to look for filters and drains to clean. Also check out the jets, as sometimes these can be clogged farther back than you can see with a quick inspections. You can likely remove them and take a good look. Secondly, you may want to switch detergents. Perhaps the quality of the water you are using has changed, hard water build up or you have changed detergents. You have to find the right detergent for the kind of water you are using, especially if you don't have a water softener. where the filter in the bottom of the dishwasher needed cleaning out. Just take the screws out, pull the plastic filter out and clean. Hope this helps.

Dishwasher SprayArms not Spinning
If your dishes are coming out of the dishwasher covered by a removable
dirty film, your water may not be hot enough, or you could be using an
inferior brand of automatic dishwashing detergent. If you have tested
your hot water and find it is between 140 degrees and 160 degrees
Fahrenheit, consider how long it takes for the hot water to reach the
dirty dishes in the dishwasher. If the hot water has to travel a long
distance to reach the dishwasher, chances are the water filling the
dishwasher starts out cold. To alleviate this problem, run the hot
water nearest to your dishwasher until the water coming out is hot.
This will guarantee the water filling the dishwasher is as hot as it
should be to properly clean dirty dishes.
To remove this type
of film from dirty dishes, after running the dishes through a basic
rinse cycle, set a bowl filled with a cup or two of white vinegar on
the lowest rack of the dishwasher. Remove any metal pans or utensils,
and with the vinegar on the bottom rack, wash the dishes as usual.
Dirty dishes that were once covered in film should come out squeaky
clean hope this help? thanks.
I imagine you've already checked that you're using the correct amount
of detergent for the wash programme, and that you're washing the
correct quantity of dishes for the wash programme, though if not, try that first!
Is the dishwasher heating the water to the correct temperature? If it's not rinsing at a hot enough temperature, the detergent may leave a residue. In that case, your dishes would probably also be less than entirely clean; they could be slightly greasy when removed from the machine.
Another possibility is that insufficient water is supplied to the dishwasher, so it might be worth checking the tap that lets water through the hose and into the machine. Does the tap turn on fully? Does it turn off properly?
The other thing that might be worth trying is an empty wash: put the machine through a wash programme WITH detergent but WITHOUT dishes, at the programme with the highest temperature. Is all the soap scum washed away? Or is there still a residue inside the machine? If the empty wash works, you probably need to give your machine a maintenance wash once a month or so. This is often the case if you usually wash your dishes a few at a time on a short programme.
If the glasses are spotty from hard water try a rinse aid like Jet Dry. If they are actually dirty, depending on the brand of DW you may need to rinse them better before putting them in the DW. Not all brands are cerated equally, some do work better then others
If your dishwasher drains it's water to a garbage disposal, give the disposal a spin while the dishwasher is pumping out. Check around the bottom of the dishwasher to make sure something is not clogging the drain.
Hi Dirty Dish gang. After having 2 appliance repairmen here, I now have the latest scoop on our dishwasher problems, $200 later! Los Angeles IS currently having hard water issues. Also, all the new cleaning gels etc. are actually a cause of our dishwasher problems. So, here is what we need to do: 1.Use Cascade POWDER detergent only. Make sure is is just "plain" no "scented" or "complete" or gel, etc. (I have tried a phosphate free powder and gel and this is a cause of our problem as well!)2.Use Jet Dry in the dispenser (set it to a 2-3 opening)3.Make sure water is at least 120 degrees4.Only run dishwasher on "normal" setting. All others just run it longer, hence causing more water stains.5.Do not pre-wash dishes! You can knock of chunks with a "non" soapy brush, but don't rinse (the oils actually help to clean the dishes)6. Do not wash sponges in dishwasher. Acid Wash:The repairman just gave my washer an Acid Wash today. It says it is an acid derived from lemon, I got mine from Carters appliance in Torrance, CA for about $19.I am to run a normal cycle with the above mentioned Cascade after this "acid cycle" is finished. If you are still having problems: Monthly maintenance:Glass Magic:Buy a box of Glass Magic (near the Cascade) Use 1 Tbsb in main detergent compartment of dishwasher along with the Cascade, till washer starts working again.White Vinegar:You can run an empty dishwasher with white vinegar once a month. Fill a bowl with 2 cups vinegar and place on bottom rack. Then run as a normal cycle...this allows vinegar to disperse slowly. So far it seems to be working. Good luck.
brittgee, there has been a number of service flashes on this model. One that has to do with the upper spray arm assy. Complaint is poor washability; gritty glasses, food redeposited on glasses, especially in the corners. They redesigned the upper spray arm to improve water spray to all corners of the upper rack. The new part number is 8269022. They also redesigned the third level spinner for more consistant rotation and better washability. This was also under a service flash. Part number.8193768. Other reasons for poor wash would be; low water temperature, rinse aid disp. not working, loading etc. Catriver...post back.
