Question about Toshiba 14" LCD Monitor

1 Answer

Scratchy sound I have a Toshiba LCD Color TV model 14DL74. After six months it has developed scratchy, or stacticy sound on some channels but not all. Anyone have any ideas? I'm about to disassemble it and replug all cables and connectors and circuit boards. That's about all I know how to do. Thanks for any ideas?

Some channels broadcast on diffrent sound channels and power. I would bet the ones that have static sound are the high frequency channels that broadcast in dolby surround 6.1 or are sending High Def signals. Before tearing it down I would check to see if the cable box or satellite reciever is out of date. If they are the company you go through should replace it for you. This should fix the problem. If not then you have a problem with your sound sending hardware.

Scratchy sounding volume controls?

If you have a scratchy sounding volume control or your channels cut in and out when adjusting the volume you are most likely suffering from a dirty potentiometer (volume knob) Fully disassemble your DTT2500 unit and liberally spray electronics cleaner in every party of the volume knob (and the other knobs as well). Let fully dry before reassembling.

Sound center

Replace center channel speaker with known good one. If no longer scratchy then the voice coil of removed unit is rubbing against the magnet pole and the speaker needs to be replaced. If the replacement speaker also sounds bad, then the amp for the center channel needs repair.

Distorted, scratchy sound with Toshiba Satellite

OK, I would restore or recover the computer to manufacturer's original specifications and automatic update to the latest sp3.

Then, I would reinstall your virus protection and see if it's better.

Audio is very scratchy/static

If it makes a scratchy sound when the volume is turned up and down then the carbon contacts on the volume control are most likely the culprit you can attempt to clean them with rubbing alchol and a Q-tip.

Re: scratchy speaker sound quality

Have you tried with headphones?  Scratchy WITH heaphones. Reinstall driver. If it's NOT scratchy with headphones.  Either your speakers are blown, (which usually doesn't happen), you need to reinstall your sound card drivers, or bad settings.  Double click sound horn. Turn some volumes haflway, or mute sound channels you aren't using. Options Properties will let you show ALL sound properties. Ctrl+S makes the sound properties half size.
ReInstall Drivers: Start - Settings - Control Panel - System - Device Manager, Expand Sound Controllers, Right Click on your sound card, Click Uninstall.  Reboot and reintall.
Might ask to reinstall automatically.  Thats fine.  Install then reboot.  I prefer to cancel the install until I have rebooted.  But both ways tend to work.
Hope you don't have to change your speakers.  Need to pull your mobo to get to em. Instructions here pg. 5-55

1996 RCA Color TV model G27720tn

If you are on cable, first run the cable wire from the wall directly to the TV, eliminating any cable box and/or VCR. If channel 2 is snowy but the rest (especially 3-6) are clear, it is most certainly a cable problem and not a TV problem. The TV uses the exact same circuits for channel 2 to 6 (VHF-LOW) so if the tuner was bad and 2 was snowy, 3, 4, 5 and 6 would be snowy too. Bring a second TV into that room, disconnect the cable wire from the RCA and connect it to the second TV. Is channel 2 on the second TV as snowy as it was on the RCA?

Sound scratchy

Seems to me that the first thing you want to do is find out if your problem comes from the camera speakers/output, or if it records them scratchy. Take one of the "scratchy" cassettes, and play them on another device to see if it transfers bad audio. If it does, then you're worst off offcourse, more of a repair. If it doesn't you can decide you don't need a repair, as long as it does the job. Good luck
