Well its like this, after turning it on it will work for maybe 15 mins and then it will freeze up or have me hundreds of miles away from where i am or sometime it has me going 180 mphs! It seems to get hot so i guess its the HD, i have taken it apart and the antenna seems fine and this will happen with my external antenna also..thanks
I have the same problem(and others too)
After it freezes, I have to turn it off and turned on again. Sometimes it works. I think, that these problems can be fixed only in repair shops (Dealers) only, prohabs that's the whole idea...
I paid over $1,000.00 when it came out. I wouldn't pay for it $200.00 if I would know.....
There are units on market today, that cost less than $200.00 and do better jod than Magelan 700!

No not normal at all, unless you leave it in the car switched off and drive several hundred miles to a different location. It could also mean the signal to the antenna is blocked. Try it outside of the car and away from all transmitter equipment (cell phones, blue tooth stuff) If it works okay there it could be because the windshield is blocking signals due to a metal vapour coated windshield (usually French cars have this issue)
This sounds like a thermal issue. Maybe the lcd is overdriven and getting hot. To find out if this is the case, blow cold air on the receiver while it is running. If it stays connected longer than normal under these chilly conditions, then chances are that some component is overheating and shutting off. It will be most likely a transistor on the signal receiving portion of the board. In that case, I am sure that you will need to send it in to Garmin for repair. Good Luck!
Not updating your GPS isn't going to cause signal loss. Push the options key, go to configuration, then to diagnostics, scroll down.. select reset gps. it will say it takes 5 min. to relocate.. etc. see if that fixes it. If it doesn't fix then when you restart your unit and the user menu appears. Press "-" key and "repeat" button at the same time.. then select clear gps user data or.. user data gps... something to that nature.. Hope this works out for ya.
