Question about Kenmore 53642 / 53644 Side by Side Refrigerator

Kenmore side by side dirty water

I install a new water filter after a year except I forgot to turn it when I ran the 3 gallons of water through it. I did see no problem with the water. However, when I did turn after running the water through it, it now always seems to have a film of something floating in the newly dispensed water. What do I need to do. I have run about 20 gallons of water through it and it still has the problem. Is it a broken membrane in the filter and I need a new filter(thought I read that somewhere)?

The original cap for the filter, was supposed to be a plug bypass, for application of outside undersink filter. Using, this, one can check to see if the filter was the contaminant here. You need to be, more specific, to explain a problem. Something is too too generasl,,, color, consistancy, odor, quantity, filter has a fine fine filtrationl unit on the outlet, and if defective the charcoal residue may come out. You can remove filer and pass suppy water thru and review the effluent coming out. ??? Regards, fmauka

Every time you replace a water filter you want to purge about 3-4 gallons. Or maybe the filter was bad.

Ice maker icing up

Sounds like you may have a couple of problems here. The frost build up could be from a bad door seal. Moist air can be drawn in and collect on the inside. As for the water temp, it sounds like the water line connected to the refrigerator could be tapped off a hot water line. It needs to be connected to a potible cold water line.

Whirlpool Side by Side- semi-translucent tape likedebris in water

Sounds like the plastic from the icemaker is chipping off the unit in the ice making process.

If your water is running clear except through the refrigerator that is my suggestions. Although normally the plastic color is blackish.

then change your filter. the new filter could be different with the old filter. check the new filter, see if there is odor removal and taste removal with it.

if not then get the filter with carbon filter, odor and taste removal.

then with a new filter, run about 5 gallons of water before using the water for drinking.

tnx 4 using fixya,

Kenmore side by side dirty water

the problem might be linked ot your reverse osmosis system itself, something about filtering and storing previously filtered water, which if i remember correctly creates a "harmless" bio film the consistency of what appears to be brine shrimp sized particles floating in water. so i would remove the filter from the refig and flush out again.

Particles floating in whirlpool filtered water.

okay - we have had this same problem for around 6 weeks - We called a service repairman to come out and he said that these "floaties" are harmless bacteria. We should disconnect the filter and flush the system by using 1 gallon of water a day (wasting it) after the chlorine in the water is allowed to build up again then the "floaties"- bacteria- will go away---- gross :-( We will see if it works---
