AKAI PT4298HD no pic and no sound

We have had our 42" AKAI working for about 17 months, today it will not turn on. You can hear it try and I have verified that the front (timer) light kicks on but ultimately it will not turn on. I have tried unplugging it for 30 minutes and plugging other devices into the wall socket (they all work fine).

Most likely, this is a problem with the convergence board. The convergence amps (STK392-040 x 2)are internally shorted. These can be replaced of the whole convergence board can be replaced. It's cheaper to replace the amps, but more convienent to replace the board (especially for the less electronically inclined!! :) Also, this could be from a leaking CRT. In CRT projection televisions, the red, green, and blue tube are filled with coolent (glycol). These 42" models are very bad about the tubes leaking (Akai and Samsung models)and are infamous for destroying the CRT driver board connected to the bottom of each tube. When this happens, the protection circuit kicks in and will not let the television start up. *PLEASE, FOR YOUR OWN SAKE, DO NOT FOLLOW THESE NEXT STEPS IF YOU HAVE NO UNDERSTANDING OF ELECTRONIC EQUIPMENT!!!! There are four screws and three snap clips that hold the bottom on. UNPLUG THE TELEVISION, remove the screws and pull bottom outward to remove. The bottoms of the three tubes should be visible. DON'T TOUCH THEM!! Now look under each tube. If one is leaking, there will be a wet spot (or sometimes a puddle!) underneath the tube. This will have to be serviced by a TV tech. Hope this helps...

I just replace convergence board on my akai tv and

There is a burnt capacitor somewhere in the unit. Look for any burnt or swelled up capacitors. You can also usually locate a bad cap if there is burn marks on the system board. Also test power supply with voltmmeter to make sure it is a constant volt reading.

Akai pt4298hd picture is to bright

Sounds like dirty lenses to me. Do some research on optics cleaning for RPTVs. AVS is a good place to start. Also try this:

Our tv will not turn on

Our AKAI was just 14 months old. A few days ago, it died also. Blank screen, no sound, but the timer light will flash on a couple of times when you try to power it up. It even sounds like it wants to turn on. I paid a tech to come to my house $65 and it turns out to be the power supply $385. I checked other chat boards and many people are having this same problem with their AKAI 42" (PT4298HD) televsion. A real piece of junk this model! Sorry for the bad news!
