Re: no picture but there was a sound

1.service mode before putting unit into the service mode, check that customer adjustments are in the normal mode. use the reset function in the video adjust menu to ensure customer controls are in thier proper(reset)position. 2.service number selection once in the service mode, press the channel up or channel down button on the remote transmitter or at the set . the service adjustment number will vary in increments of one, from "S01"~"S19" to "M05". select the item you wish to adjust. number selection press the volume up or down button to adjust the data number. to enter the service mode. while pressing the vol-up and ch-up buttons at once, plug the ac cord into the wall socket and switch on the main power. now the TV set is switched on and enters the service mode. to exit the service mode, shut the television off by pressing the power button.

The picture is oversized and the printing as in the stock ticker or in the sports scores can only be seen a little bit on the bottom. Can't find anyway to resize the picture.

Zenith sets, like most others now, are adjusted electronically through a service menu. You'll need your original remote control (or a Zenith-brand universal replacement with a MENU key) to access the menu. Press and hold the MENU button until the channel number and time display goes away, then press 9, 8 , 7, 6, ENTER. This puts you into service mode.

In service mode, CHANNEL UP and CHANNEL DOWN move through the different settings, and VOLUME UP and VOLUME DOWN change the values. Make sure you write down the original value of anything before you change it so you can put it back if necessary. One of the reasons the manufacturers hide the service menu is because the set can be damaged by incorrect settings to some of the parameters.

On some models, you can't get to all the parameters unless you change one called F MODE from 00 to 01. You might need to do this on yours.

The list of parameters varies by model and features. I haven't worked on a Zenith in a long time so I don't remember exactly what yours says, but you want to find two settings for V SIZE (vertical size) and V POS (vertical position). Adjust the size first by lowering the value until the top and bottom of the screen are black. Then adjust the position so the picture is centered (black strips close to equal size). Finally, increase the size until the picture fills the screen again. It's normal to adjust for a little overscan, meaning you push the top and bottom a little bit out of view. If you stop too soon, on some channels you might see flashing lines at the top of the picture.

When you're finished adjusting, turn the TV off to exit service mode. If you needed to change the F MODE setting, put it back to 00 first. Your picture should be properly sized after all this.

No channel control knob on Sharp Linytron: 1993-Model 1 3SB50.

This set was a massively stupid idea and requires the remote control for everything. You'll need to buy a universal remote control, which should give you the basic functions (power, volume and channel control), but might not get you access to picture or sound adjustments. I don't think this set had any special features.

My hotel tv turns on to 66, how do i get it to turn on to channel 3

Most hotel sets have a master remote for setting up channels, volume levels, picture settings, etc. You will have to get a master remote for this adjustment. Thanks for using fixya.

Picture is cut off on sides but not top and bottom. The display channel (default 2) is cut off on the side to give you an idea. (purchased it new around 1998-1999).

With TV powered off, use remote control to successively hit DISPLAY, 5, sound volume +, and POWER all within a second of each other. This takes you to the Service Adjust Mode and the first thing that appears is the Horizontal Size Adjustment "HSIZ". Press numbers 3 or 6 to make the picture larger or smaller. Other things can be adjusted by using numbers 1 or 4 to go through the list but you could really screw up your TV so don't do anything unless you are sure about it. When you're finished hit MUTING and then ENTER to save the changes.

The volume on my television has sound when playing dvd or vhs, but does not have sound when it is on a television channel.

that indicates that the amplifier is fine, the problem is that sound on a channel is combined sound and picture signals,
you can fine tune a channel,
if that is happening on all channels, a tv is suppose to alingned with a signal generator
