DCR-HC42 I've been getting the error C:31:42 which according to the manual is the condensation error. I've done what the manual says, to turn off the camera, disconnect the battery, then let it air out. That hasn't worked. Please help me fix this problem. It seems to go away and come back but this time it's come back to stay. Please help me not spend 300 on the repair. Thank you in advance. Andrea

dcr-trv350 I've had that problem for a couple years. It's my third short lived sony 8mm. I thought it was just poor quality, If there is a fix I'd love to hear it.

Take the battery out and turn selection switch to camera and then turn it off. Put the battery back in and its working again.
if that doesn't work try
Try smacking the side of the camera relatively hard with the palm of your hand. Eject the tape and reinsert. You may need to do this a couple of times.

I have the same error message and found another forum where several people suggested simply taking it apart and putting it together again. Haven't tried it yet, but probably will tomorrow if it doesn't fix itself. Here's a link to the forum. http://www.pechorin.com/m/2005/11/18/Sony_TRV230_error_C3142-249161.html

Sony DCR-hc42 video camera problems

Buy a Sony-make head cleaning cassette and play it in the camera for 10 seconds. Do not play for more time, neither forward or reverse the cleaning cassette, otherwise you will damage the head of the camera. This cleaning cassette is to be thrown when it is fully played (and not rewound!).

Camera will not insert tape. Mechanism works OK without tape. Sony dcr-hc42

A C31:40 error indicates that the drum (the spinning video head) is either not spinning or is not supplying a signal to the main computer to tell the computer it is spinning. It could be a bad drum or a loose connection. It will likely take a qualified technician to verify the diagnosis.

SONY camcorder DCR-HC42 color stripes

Try with the side display closed. Does the viewfinder show the pix OK? If so, then the problem is isolated to the LCD display. There is a small ribbon cable between the camera body and the LCD that sometimes gets a small crack in it. Replacing the cable usually fixes the problem.

DCR-HC42

  1. I'm having the exact same problem. It wont accept the cassette...only half way then errors. It will close fully without a cassette as well. hmmmmm
Comment by Guest, posted on Apr 02, 2008 Load cassette, turn it on, then message says re-load cassette. Door to cassette compartment only works half way. After fiddling with power, can get the cassette door to open and close all the way, but not with cassette. Tried several brands of cassettes, no joy.

SONY DCR-HC42 - auto focus will not work ???

that problem is on the lens assembly...one the two motor is not working properly...sometimes it is a poor connection to the socket of the main board...other is photo sensor of the lens(not the ccd image sensor)or the driver ic of the 2 motor...i suggest you have to go the service center for repairing you camera cause it need to disassemble the camera for doing this....
