Have you checked in the bios setup of the motherboard if your SATA ports are enabled?

Let me know if you need further assistance.

First thing, Sata hard drives dont use the Master/Slave setup.
That's only used on IDE drives through jumper settings on the drive itself. For Sata to work correctly all it needs is to be detected or enabled by the bios and set to be the first bootable HDD in the Bios boot menu. While installing Windows XP you will see a prompy very early on in the install process to Push F2 for recovery or push F6 for any additional disk or raid drivers. Push F6 while its shown on the bottom, its only there for 1-2 seconds so make sure you get it quick.
You will need a floppy with the drivers written on it, usually you can get those from a disk that came with the motherboard or from the PC or motherboard manufactuers website (look for SATA drivers and unzip or install them to your floppy.)
Insert the floppy when prompted and it will detect your disk during the Setup part of the windows instalation. If installing Vista or Windows 7 beta you will not need SATA drivers.

Hello, You need to right click on to my computer>Manage>choose disk management, you should format the new SATA HDD there.

If that will work for you that is good but if not, i thing you should updated the BIOS and you have to make sure that you get that update to MSI website. if you are not familiar w/ that asked some one who know how to flash BIOS. it is risky if you are not familiar doing BIOS update!!!

I am not able to detect sata hard disk in msi mother board

Your model K8MM-V motherboard does not have a SATA controller only IDE disk controllers and therefore it cannot detect a SATA hard drive.
To install a SATA hard drive on this motherboard you need to purchase a PCI SATA disk controller and install it on the PCI expansion slot and then attach the SATA hard disk to this SATA controller.

500 Gb sata hdd not detected on k8mm-v motherboard

Find in your BIOS if you have an option that says configure SATA as IDE, AHCI and raid. Set it at IDE and try again to install the OS. After intaling do not switch back because it will not work.

MSI K8T Neo 2 not recognize Hitach 1 TB Sata

This is a quote from VIA:

"CHIP FIRM VIA issued a note to its customers telling them of problems with chipset support for hard drives using the Serial ATA II standard.
It said that VT8237 and VT8237R chipsets don't provide forward compatibility for S-ATA II, which is important as hard drive makers are beginning to manufacture this type of drive.

But Via is readying the release of VT8237R Plus, which will solve the problem. This means that motherboard makers that use the former chipset should clear their inventory before September.

Hard drive manufacturers position with S-ATA II is as follows, said Via in its note. Western Digital and Samsung are already shipping these devices, while Seagate and Maxtor will start shipping them during this quarter.

If you connect S-ATA II drives to an old Via chipset which includes the VT8237, VT8237R, VT6420 and VT6421L, the devices won't be detected.

Some mobo makers, such as Epox, have already responded to the problem and have warned their customers to seek the support of hard drive vendors. In a letter to its customers, it said that they should also check the specs of other manufacturers' Via based motherboards."
