Question about Dell Inspiron 1100 Notebook

1 Answer

Dell 1100 won't let Belkin wireless G card and ACPI work together

I have a Dell 1100 using a Belking wireless G card but when I use it with a battery, ACPI in device manager takes over giving the Belkin card a red X. I realized that it disables the wireless card to I disabled the ACPI and then enabled the wireless card again, and it connects. I can use it without problem if its plugged in for power, but once I put in the battery, it kills the wireless card and I have to do it all again. Very frustrating! Bios has been updated, and Belkin drivers were downloaded from website. Help!

I purchase the laptop on eBay and did a fresh install using dells xp sp2 disk. I downloaded the drivers/utility for the belkin f5d7010 card, but the only way it works is to disable microsoft ACPI compliant under batteries in device manager. I'm current wireless and using battery, but I can't measure the amount of time battery has left without enabling the microsoft ACPI and once I do, it disables the wireless card. I am going to try a linksys card when I get to my brothers house to see if it makes any difference.

Good idea. I have personally not seen this issue before but am curious as to see how it is solved. If it is infact the belkin card, what about it is wrong. Maybe trying a newer driver could solve this issue. Or an older one. Has the Chipset driver been installed? It'll be an intel chipset driver. I'd download it all directly from dell if you didn't.

Wow, I am actually using the dell inspiron 1100 (first laptop ever owned), and still love it. The wireless card i'm using is also belkin, I haven't found any issues. How long has it been since you've reformatted the computer? I highly suggest if you haven't, then do it. If you have done it within the past 2 years, still do it anyways. I know its a pain, but you know it'll fix the problem ;-). I'll mark it as a CR just so others can see it as unsolved, just incase someone ahs a better solution. But in my experience, its best not to waist too much time on these things :-).

There are a couple of things that can cause this issue. Let's try the easiest one first.

Open the Network Connections window
Right click on the network device and verify that it is enabled, then click on Properties
Click on the Configure button next to the Connect Using field near the top
Click on the Power Management tab at the top
Clear the top check box ". . . to save power"
Close all of the windows and test to see if you can connect.

Good luck and please let me know how this works for you. If it does not work, let me know and we can look at something else.

My computer doesn't recognize my wireless card and has no wifi utility

Did you install the software first? The Belkin card should have had a CD with drivers. I believe the directions say to install the software first, then install the card.
Also, the min. specs are listed on the Belkin box. Check to be sure your computer meets them.

I had to reset my router because I forgot my security key. Now the wireless isn't working. The light is off and I can't connect to it with my laptops. What happened and how can I fix it?

Hi,

It is possible that since your reset your router that the settings is more likely to be reset as well then you will have to connect using an ethernet cable direcly from the lptop to your router to turn on the wireless capability of your Belkin router.

You will need to get your router's Default gateway to get in the router and turne the wireless capability on it. Most probobly the IP address of your Belking would be 192.168.2.1 type this in IE on the address bar then press enter this should lead you into the router "Belkin" make sure that your are connected using ethernet from the laptop to your Belking router to be able to do this.
