Odds are that your problem is with the nvidia graphics card that is soldered on the motherboard. This has been a recurring problem on a lot of the Dell, HP and Apple computers. Try these links to read articles about the nvidia problem.

After reading throught he articles, remember your computer might qualify to be fixed free by HP. Here's a link to look at the model#, serial# and part# located on the bottom of your laptop to see if it is covered by the extended warranty they did to cover the nvidia problem.
http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?lc=en&dlc=en&cc=us&docname=c01300427

Here's a link to check the old warranty because the extended warranty is only good for 24 months after the old original warranty expires.

Finally if all fails, it should cost no more than $175 to repair the laptop. The guys listed by this link are a good source for the repairs. http://www.generalsystemsconsulting.com

Hp pavilion dv1000: When I turn it on, it does not boot up and I get a blank screen. I have tried hard reset by taking out the battery and holding the power button for 30 seconds, and then turning it back...

Hi,

I just want to know if you see any power indicator on the machine? If you see any power indicator try to check if you hear any sound that it boots up to windows or try to check if there are any beeping sounds when you turn on the machine. If you hear the windows boot up sound try to use external monitor and see if the machine gives any display. If you hear consecutive beeping sound it means there are hardware that's faulty inside the machine.

The screen remains black when computer is turned

maybe a hardware problem, on booting the pc, move the screen to every angle to see if there is a connection problem.
If so, then use your warranty if you have one.

Hp dv1000 media card

Hello,

Remove the media card while booting.

If there is no media in the card reader, press F8 after the laptop beeps during boot and this should give you a Safe Mode boot screen, choose Safe Mode and then your default OS listed. After you get your desktop, restart the laptop.

If when you press F8 you get a boot from what screen, choose your hard drive and then immediately press F8 again to get the Safe Mode boot screen.

You need to either remove the flash media or use Safe Mode and then restart to reset the Boot Ini information script.

Let me know if this works for you or not, as we may need to take another measure.

Regards,
Worldvet

My HP DV1000 will not start.

You have a power issue. The board is not charging the system or the battery. If you know someone with a similar model, ask them if you can borrow their battery and see if your system boots with it. If it does, you may need a new adapter or the power board in the notebook is out. When you remove the battery and try it, there's enough juice to power it up for the moment, but not sustain it.
