Question about Heating & Cooling

1 Answer

I lost my remote but I dont think that's the problem. There are 2 pull cords on the fan & I think my 10-year old may have fooled with it. I can get the lights to go on but I've tried to pull one cord - then the other - then try one switch - then the other. PLEASE HELP because I can't stand not having a fan! I use it year-round.

I guess you know this is not an AIR CONDItIONER - it's a HUNTER CEILING FAN/Light & I don't know the model number. It's probably 8 or 9 years old. I did lose the remote, but shouldn't I be able to turn on the fan manually (there are 2 pull cords) - the light goes on with the switch. Please advise)

It seem the cord switch assemble is doing what is is support to, you have check the cord switch type and get is replaced. There are two kind of switch: If it is a 1 way switch circuit (2core +earth cable) or a 2 way circuit (3 core + earth cable).

We purchased a house that is more than 10 years old. The ceiling fan w/light does not turn on with the wireless remote that is attached to the wall and there is not other switch but this one to turn it on....

You need to know if there is power to the fixture. If there is , then you might need to replace the receiver. It should be under the canopy where the power is connected for the fan.

Hey dale. Sounds like either the integrated remote pack inside the fan housing might be bad, or the reversal switch part. If it has a switch on the fan housing to change it from forward and reverse, you could try going to a hardware store and replacing that switch. If that doesn't work, then it is probably a bad remote receiver pack iside the fan, it will be a bigger, probably black little box. If this is the case, your better off getting a new fan, as it will cost about the same. If your fan doesn't have a little switch to change blade direction, 9 out of 10 times it is the receiver pack. If your fan does have a switch for fan direction, there is a good chance it is a bad switch. It could also be both. After 10 years with the fan, you might seriously want to consider purchasing a new fan.

Does the fan/light fitting have manual switches, pullcords?

If so, are you sure the manual switch for the light is in the 'on' position? The remote will not override the manual switch, so it must be on.

Apologies if you have already thought of this.

Fan won't go on

It's probably the electronics inside the fan. They may need replacing. http://www.ceiling-fans-n-more.com/hampton-bay-ceiling-fan-parts.php
