I am using a Kingston 2 gb PC2-5300. I have to rplace one of the old ones as there is no extra memory bay. I've gone online and viewed compatible laptops for this particular item and it says that they are compatible. Unfortunately I'm running into the same problem as srr58 is.

Remove the memory module you added. Maybe it is incompatible with the laptop or is damaged.

Toshiba sateille A105 s2141 black screen at start up

check the laptop using an external monitor and if there is no display then the mother board is faulty and will need the help from a service center.
If there is display then it is confirmed that the LCD panel is faulty. It can be due to faulty LCD, linking cord to the panel or an interface failure of the display section.
All of the above will require that you must have some test equipments to confirm.

Cant find cmos battery on toshiba satelite l300 motherboard, need to reset hdd password

You cannot reset a HDD password (if its a bitlocker one) and you have lost your encryption key reset file and forgot password.
if you mean the BIOS/Power on password then try this
Remove Laptop Battery Remove Memory Cover Spread spring clips to outside and pull out RAM memory Remove clear vinyl label opposite RAM memory slots In the upper left corner you will see JOPEN1 with a white silkscreen square Inside the square you will see what looks like the letter T over a U. Using a metal paper clip short the U to the Silver 1/4"post connecting the motherboard to the laptop case and hold it for 25 -30 seconds. Place back your RAM memory, put in the laptop battery and test start laptop. you should see a selection of F1 or F2 for setup. Using the F2 gets you into the Bios menu where you reset the time and date. Then Tab over to the SECURITY setting tab and change your passwords. Then hit F10 key

The problem there may be your cmos battery or possibly a memory issues. If you just recently added memory, I suggest you find a more compatible one for your laptop.

Upgrade memory problems

are you sure you are putting the proper ram in? don't mix and match speed and size. If you can put it back the way it was and get it to start again, go to www.crucial.com and run the scanner. It will tell you exactly what you need.

Remove the 1 gig chip. Pull you battery out and unplug the laptop. Hold the power button in for 10 seconds. Put the battery back in and plug the laptop back in again and try booting it up. This should reset the BIOS and allow it to boot. The beep codes you are talking about are a memory beep code and it is normally caused by adding memory or a loose memory stick. Also try pulling the existing memory and resetting it.
