Question about Video Cameras

5 Answers

I have a Sony CCD-FX410 8mm camcorder. It is in excellent condition. I was going to transfer all my 8mm tapes to DVD and decided I should get a head cleaner for it. Found one at BestBuy, put it in and it would not run. It kept popping up, ejecting. I should have stopped after a few tries but I kept trying and then the camcorder started going "beep, beep" and an icon flashed in the viewfinder. I got the manual and it said seek repair. Now the head cleaning tape will neither play nor eject--I can't do anything! I noticed the door has a small gap as if maybe the tape isn't in there properly. I'm not sure if that gap was ever there before or not. Please help!

That solution did not work. Please advise.......what I do I do next?

When I put power cord back on it did the same blinking and beeping as before and will not eject.

  • lhopkins957 Apr 19, 2009

First solution did not work. Tape will still not eject. I don't see how this could be a "wrong" head cleaner. It's an 8mm head cleaner purchased at Best Buy. Also there is no reset button on camcorder.

  • lhopkins957 Apr 19, 2009

THAT IS THE EXACT SAME ANSWER I GOT FROM THE OTHER GUY. I already said it did not work. That's why I reposted! I need another solution.

  • lhopkins957 Apr 19, 2009

Ok sorry. I didn't realize you can't see it.

That didn't work. What else do you suggest?

  • lhopkins957 Apr 19, 2009

Are you still here??? I need to know if you can help me further.

  • lhopkins957 Apr 19, 2009

What do you mean by "the Sony service center"? I went to their website and they no longer service these.

  • lhopkins957 Apr 19, 2009

    Ok I really appreciate it!

  • lhopkins957 Apr 19, 2009

    Did you find it?

  • lhopkins957 Apr 19, 2009

Ok thanks. Will they be able to see what we've already covered?

  • lhopkins957 Apr 19, 2009

This is my 3rd try to get a solution. I have a Sony 8mm camcorder, CCD-FX410 and a head cleaning tape is stuck in it and I can't get it out. This camera is in EXCELLENT condition. I tried going to Sony's website and they no longer offer service on it. Both of the other people who answered this told me to turn power off, unplug cord, turn on to VTR and wait 15 seconds, then plug cord in again. It didn't work. After I put the head cleaner in, it wouldn't play and kept trying to eject. Finally it just started beeping and flashing an icon in the viewfinder. Manual says to send for repair. Any ideas on what I can do? Can not get tape ejected. Thank you.

  • lhopkins957 Apr 19, 2009

How can it be the "wrong tape"? It's an 8mm head cleaner made by Best Buy. Also what do you mean "contact Sony"? According to Sony's website, they no longer service these camcorders. So who is it exactly that I'm supposed to contact? I must say I am getting quite frustrated with you guys all giving me the same answers over and over. It's taking days now to get an answer because I have to answer and wait for you to come back with the same things we've already discussed.

Hi,
I know CCD-FX410 camcorder was launched in July 1992 and I also know what is the reason of problem in your camcorder and I'm afraid it can not be solved because its an old piece now. Parts are no longer available and problem is leaky electrolytic capacitors on its circuit boards. Time factor is involve here, it is not operational mistake.
I can help you out to eject stuck head cleaner tape in camcorder. If you are looking to bring it back in business then it is not possible because an experienced camera tech can repair it and will charge you more then camcorder worth.

Hit "add a comment" button to assist you in ejecting tape. You need to apart camcorder and should have 4 or 6 volt DC supply in hand.
Thanks.

I have this camcorder as well (CCD FX-410) and no longer use it. I would be willing to sell for parts if you still want it. Please comment if so.

Seems like you have inserted in a wrong type of tape, which could have damaged the sensor or latch of the tape carrier. there is no way you repair this on you own. As this need to be checked physically for damage. The only option is to contact Sony repair shop.

Thanks

Follow this procedure to troubleshoot if the cassette compartment will not open or the tape is stuck and will not eject.
IMPORTANT: If your camcorder model has a RESET button, first try pressing this button. If there is no RESET button, or pressing the button does not resolve the issue, continue with the troubleshooting steps below.

  1. Turn off the camcorder.
  2. Remove the battery from the camera.
  3. Remove the AC power supply from the camera.
  4. Slide the power switch on the camera to the VTR , VCR or CAMERA mode for 15 seconds.
  5. Slide the power switch back to the OFF position.
  6. Connect the AC power supply to the camera.
  7. Attempt to open the cassette compartment.
Please let me know if that works..

Srinivas

This normally happens due to one of the following reasons:
    1) low battery
    2) defective cassette(or head-cleaner in your case)
    3) A defective IC
chip that regulates the servo-mechanisms of the recorder.
We have obviated the first choice .. now it sublimes down to either bad-cleaner that might be stuck/Jammed inside or the IC chip has given up.. either ways, it would be a wise choice to contact the Sony service center.

    Srinivas

HI,
The problem could have been caused by the incorrect headcleaner disk. The head has small rings on it and if there is damage to it , it needs a replacement.
Kindly remove the head cleaner disk and put a normal disk in, tell me if there still is an error code displayed on the screen.

Thanks

Hello. First, try placing the cassette into another known-good camcorder to verify that you actually recorded something on the tape! Next, use a good quality head cleaner--the type that uses a small amount of liquid. There is a small chance that the heads in the rotating drum are very dirty and preventing video information transfer. There are 2 video information sources in a camcorder. The CCD, in record mode, sends video information to a rotating drum which transfers it to the tape that is wound around it. This image is visible in the viewfinder and on the lcd screen. In playback mode, the rotating drum simply picks up the information off the magnetic tape. It is entirely possible that damaged circuitry is blocking video info to the drum and preventing it from being transferred to the tape. Additionally, when trying to play back a pre-recorded tape, the information might be blocked by the same damaged circuitry so you don't see anything--yet you know it's there. You'll see everything live in the viewfinder and on the lcd screen because that comes directly off the CCD chip. If the tape HAS your video on it, then there is a playback circuit problem only. I'm surprised you didn't see any error codes in the display. In either case, you will HAVE to send the unit in for repair. Send it to a repair facility directly--a retail store will add considerable cost to your bill needlessly.--- Hope I helped you.---Rick

P.S. I have the DCR-TRV530 and love it! They are good units and Sony has an excellent repair history.

We can see the image in fast forward or rewind but and no audio

Many parts are still available on these camcorders however if it needs a video head for example, and it's not avaiable it may be a better idea to get another 8mm camcorder off ebay, or maybe a pawn shop. just test them with a new blank tape first before putting your family tapes in.

Transfering 8mm video tapes to dvds

Hi there. You need to transfer your videos to your computer and then burn them to DVD using a program like Record Now, or Nero. You should be able to get this from Best Buy, or you can get it online from their websites. If you have any other questions, let me know with a comment. Thanks for coming to FixYa.

Sony handycam and pc transfer

Hello,
Sony CCD-TRV218E is analog PAL camcorder and can not be hooked with PC directly.
Computer (PC) requires digital format files to store on HDD and your camcorder has no digital file format to directly transfer in to computer.

You can hook your camcorder with DVD recorder to burn a DVD. Now you have digital files on DVD and can be transferred in PC.

You need to install MPEG card or some thing like that in PC 1st and this card will digitize analog picture signal into compatible format.
