Question about RCA F36650 36" TV

2 Answers

White washed image and horizontal lines.

Just recieved an older set from a friend of the family; moved the bulky unit less than gracefully to our home. Worked fine prior to move, now has what I believe are called "horizontal retrace," or white "flyback lines" running through the image on the still working set. Also, the image appears white washed, or faded.
Can't afford to have it service, and won't likely be replacing it, but would like to fix it myself.
Is there a brightness potentiometer on the flyback or anywhere else in the set that I can adjust to fix this? Or will it need some sort of replacement component?
Thank you for your assistance.

I gave it a shot, but it didn't really do too much. The lines are still there, and it's still washed out. Thanks for the suggestion though.

Unfortunately there doesn't appear to be any pots on the flyback. That was my first thought after moving the unit. I've basically given up on the unit, unless anybody else has any other ideas (short of replacing the flyback or tube itself) I think this tv is doomed to a slow death, agonizing death.

Its retrace line is cause by overturn screen voltage. In can be adjust on the potentiometer of the flyback, slowly adjust it to a minimum level if this is a crt type. Just be cautious in dealing with this you are working on a live circuit.

Hope this additional input helps you.

Sounds like you shorted an element in the CRT (picture tube) i have seen this same thing in a lot of portable tvs that have been banged around ,loss of contrast (washed out ) with retrace lines . i have fixed a few by LIGHTLY tapping on the neck of the tube with the handle of a rubber handled screwdriver at a few points around the neck , while it was on . if the picture goes clear you fixed it . but i must say you can easly break the tube tapping on the neck . so REAL EASY ON THE GLASS NECK !! .you should be checking the tube first for shorts with a tube tester .but i am sure you dont have one handy otherwise you would allready have your answer . good luck .........if this answer helped please rate 3 or 4 stars this high rateing will help keep me in the paid answer department , thank you

This sure looks like a CCD image sensor failure. If so, you can't fix this yourself. If the camera is less than a year old, Canon will fix this for you under warranty. Call 1-800-OK-CANON.

White vertical lines in image w/ 2 inch black bar horizontal.

the black bar is from the light tunnel collapsing. the white lines are from the colorwheel or the main board has a cold solder joint. replace the tunnel and colorwheel and have the main board looked at.
