is it on all usb ports only one of them if it is in only one of them then the message you getting generaly means one of thw follwng.
1- if it is in only one of the ports then try it with a different device as well to see if it is the actual port or not. 2- the device you have plugged in needs to have drivers installed. normally should have been supplied with it.
3- the device you plugging in is faulty and the system can not access it.
4- the system usb ports are overloaded. (too many usb devices connected simultaneously)
Good day sir, hi, usually its one or two ports that does not recorgnise a usb device, but if all ports does not recognise the usb device, check the CMOS setup. check this out;
one or two ports does not recognise the usb device, this is a local fault, try to check the CMOS setup, this could also be the port itself is the faulty one having loose connection.
all ports does not recognise the usb device, this is a system fault, check again the CMOS setup if the USB port is enabled, check the USB device itself also. to make sure use another pc to test the usb device.
A computer virus can also cause the usb port to malfunction, run an anti virus software, if possible you can reinstall the XP and test the USB port afterward.
If all else fails, you can buy a USB card and plug it on the expansion slot on your PC.
you may be having conflicts with usb devices. try temporarily removing all unnecessary devices from the usb ports. unplug and then plug the drive back in. you could try another port. if all ports are in use, then unplug another device, like the mouse and plug in to that port, then plug the mouse into the writers port. i had a similar problem with a wireless usb lan that stopped another device from being recognised. when i removed the lan and replugged the unrecognised device, windows recognised it. i obviously had to use the wireless lan, so i swapped that with the mouse and it worked.
hello there. It sounds as if your motherboard (bios) is not configured correctly, or your windows drivers somehow got corrupted. check in your MoBo's manual to see how to access it's bios options. and make sure that your onboard usb options are enabled.
As you stated the device works in one slot but not the other , tells you there is problem with that usb port , don't use those ports , best thing to do is purchase a PCI USB card if you need more USB ports .
