Question about Sony PlayStation Portable (PSP) Console
Maybe something on the inside is moved because ive openened a psp before and the thing in the back of the screen is like a hook that holds the screen shut. or maybe the little thing in your umd door that holds that little closing thing broke off. u can solve this also by hacking your psp and running the games trough the M33 driver. =D

On mine the metal tray was bent near back bottom of psp logo and the plastic broke so the umd cover wont stay the new back will cost me 5 dollars and the main problem now is the open umd latch is missing a springor something because is wont return. i have to manually slide it leftor right.

One possible reason could be that the metal hook, connecting from the rim of the psp which originally attaches to the disk tray has bent. Dropping your psp can do this. There is a simple alternative to substitute paying for repairs. Simply unbend the hook and the tray should be able to attach to the disk tray, so it can close. However, there may be a number of reasons why it can't close. For example, if you have lost a small piece which is vital for the disk tray, the only change you'll get to fix it would be to rather buy the spare parts and chance doing it yourself, or simply take it to an electrical company, which you would probably pay a small fortune to get it fixed. Good luck.

Tips for a great answer:
f you are experiencing issues when using a Universal Media Disc (UMD™) on the PSP system, try these troubleshooting options:
Make sure the UMD is properly inserted with the label facing the back of the PSP system. Try removing the UMD and reinserting it.
Please note, it is normal for the PSP system to make noises while it is reading from a UMD.
For PSP-1001, slide the latch to open the UMD door. For the PSP-2001 and PSP-3001, simply lift the door open.
If you have tried the troubleshooting information above, but continue to experience problems, please contact our Consumer Services department to have your PSP system serviced.
