Question about Ovens
Kenmore gas oven igniter glows but oven does come on kenmore gas oven model # 362. 75205891
When the bake igniter becomes weak or burns out, your oven would not bake. The bake igniter is usually mounted on the oven burner. It's about 1 inch by 4-8 inches (depending on the model), and comes in round or flat styles. If you don't see the igniter glow at all, it's probably burned out. Replace the igniter if found defective. Note: one of the exceptions could be that your oven is set to automatic mode instead of manual. If this is the case, set your oven to manual mode and check again.
If the bake igniter glows red and not bright yellow or white, it is probably because it is too weak. When this happens, the safety valve would not let the gas out into the oven burner. A weak igniter must be replaced.
A faulty igniter is probably the most common cause, however there are others:
-- defective thermostat
-- defective selector switch
-- defective gas safety valve
-- defective gas valve coils

SOURCE: THE OVEN WILL NOT HEAT
How old is the unit? Sometimes the igniter can glow but if it isn't drawing the right amount of power to open the gas valve then that is the safety that is built into the oven... So unless the power requirement is meant gas valve will not light. Even though the hot surface igniter is glowing red hot. chances are the igniter is bad. Let me know what turns up. ken

That is correct. You will have to check if the valve needs replacement or if there is power being sent to the solenoid for the valve. There must be just a connection problem.

IF THE UNIT IS 14 YEARS OLD BE CAREFUL THE GAS VALVE MAY BE GETTING TO THE POINT WHERE IT IS NOT SHUTTING OFF AS QUICK AS IT USE TOO, YES THIS WOULD CONCERN ME ,YOU DON'T KNOW IF ONES OF THESE TIMES THE GAS VALVE MAY NOT SHUT AND GAS BUILD UP COULD BE POSSIBLE ,NOT A GOOD THING. PLEASE BE CAREFUL

Testimonial: "Thanks so much. I guess I will need to call a repair man."
Remove the oven Racks. Remove the oven base plate. Turn the oven on. You can then see the oven ignitor next to the oven burner. If the oven ignitor does not glow a bright orange, replace it. About a $90 part.
