Samsung Home Theater does not recognize the...

This home theatre has been connected to our TV for months with no problem. The original remote for the TV broke. I replaced it with another remote (same brand, not universal) but the dvd's no longer work. My cd's play fine but the dvd's only play the audio out of the home theatre. No sound from the TV. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
