The download was a zip file which I dragged to a memory stick and put the memory stick into the USB port on the side of my tv. Nothing happened. After recognizing the memory stick it showed apps which did not effect the tv
    What did I do wrong?

  • thebrowns943 Apr 22, 2009

The television downloaded but will not verify or install the update. In reading the philips website they mention fat/dos isn't windows xp nfts or something not fat? What do i do the screen is now stuck on update and the only way to turn it off is to turn off the power strip it is plugged into.
I have a windows 98 computer is the file system diferent on this or is the SanDisk flash drive the problem because it requires a Hi-Speed USB 2.0 port and this TV is 2005 so I don't think it is a High-Speed USB 2.0 port. Boy this is a pain to straighten out. Can I plug my Ibook G4 directly into the TV and try updating or is that a really dumb idea?
    Thanks
    Nick

    THANK YOU.
You were so right I am ecstatic. I had to figure a few things out but you kept me on the right path and the picture looks great and everything works. I appreciate your sticking with me even when I was at times thick as brick in following directions.
Thanks again this is my first technical triumph in some time. The USB's on my Dell would not recognize the flash drive which was causing me a great deal of consternation and disconnecting the flash drive from the Ibook without ejecting it first must have corrupted my 1st few attempts. Anyway all is well.

Great help. I am as technically inept as anyone on this planet and Rylee hung in there and got my television running after Philips Tech Support could not come up with a solution and their recommended local rep never bothered to return my request for help. I am impressed.

Hi

You need to update the software release version V1.1.0 (or higher) that is now posted on the Philips web site. The procedure is listed below:

  1. Turn off the TV.
  2. Insert the USB memory stick into the USB port on the TV.
  3. Turn the TV on.
  4. The software update will begin automatically.
  5. After the software update is complete, turn off the TV.
  6. Remove the USB Memory stick.
  7. Turn on the TV. The TV will start up with the new software.

Please do accept this solution and revert for further assistance.

Thanks
Rylee

    Hi

You'll need to unzip the files and then insert the USB drive into the usb port of the TV. You'll need to extract the contents of the folder into an empty USB drive. After it is done then follow this procedure--

If the Software update doesn't start then turn off the tv and then turn it on again with the USB drive plugged in the usb port.

Please do accept this solution and revert for further assistance.

    Thanks
    Rylee

You'll need to format your USB drive in NTFS format. You can do it by inserrting the usb drive into your laptop and then opening the computer icon and right click on it and select properties and format it to ntfs format and after doing that you can copy the software file into the USB drive.

How can I reset my Philips 37 in flat screen TV back to the factory settings?

Hello,

You haven't mentioned the model no. of your TV. Nonetheless, the reset procedure for the model nos. 42PFL7409/98 / 42PFL7409S/98 goes like this:

1- Press Home,
2- Select [Setup] > [Installation] > [Factory
settings],
3- Press play to enter the [Factory settings]
menu
[Reset] is highlighted,
4- Press OK to reset to default settings.
5- Press Home to exit.
The reset procedure may differ for other model nos.

Furthermore, Press the "Menu" button to access the menu, and select "TV Settings" and then "Picture" to bring up the picture settings. Adjust the color, brightness, sharpness and other settings if the picture seems off. Select "Dynamic Contrast" to have the contrast adjust to screen changes and "Digital Noise Reduction" to cut down on outside interference and reduce noise in the signal. On the "Installation" menu, select "Reset AV Settings" to have the settings reset to their factory defaults.

I hope the above helps.

Good luck.

Stuck on menu screen

Try connecting the TV directly to a different wall outlet and check. Try resetting the TV to the factory settings. If the issue persists, try power resetting the TV. Turn Off the TV and remove the power plug from the wall outlet for 1 minute and reconnect it and check the operation. If the issue persists, then the TV requires service.

Have a philips 42pf7320A/37 with poor menu control. It keep popping up and staying on screen, even after activate exit, it pops back up.

That's your remote, not the TV. Your Remote button is hanging. Try a Phillips universal remote replacement and see if that problem doesn't go byebye.

My tv keeps reverting to the Philips TV Menu

If that TV has a 'menu' button on the front of the set, make sure nothing like coca-cola has spilled into where that switch is located. I would try a different remote in case the remote is getting flaky....

Menu screen keeps coming back while cable show is playing

First verify the exact Model Number of your TV. Mine is a 42PF7220A/37.

go to:
http://www.p4c.philips.com/cgi-bin/dcbint/cpindex.pl?ctn=42PF7220A/37&scy=us&slg=en

On this page I found listed under "Software & drivers" the Firmware Upgrade Software 42PF7220A/37 v1.5.0.0

I downloaded the compressed file and extracted it to a USB Flash Drive.
After you extract the file you will have 2 files...."autorun.upg" and a "readme.txt".
Print out the readme file the delete it off the USB Flash Drive
Make sure the USB Flash Drive has only one file on it (autorun.upg)

Then just follow the instructions from the "readme" file.

Fixed the "Menu" problem for me.....

Set up menu will not exit

Most of the newer Philips TVs have upgradeable software to fix that problem. You'll need a USB memory stick to download the software for the TV. Go to the Philips web site and they should have the correct software for your TV and will have the procedure for you to do the software upgrade.

When I turn on my TV it goes straight to the menu screen. You can still hear sound but no picture. When I try to exit you see the picture for about a second then it automatically flashes back to the menu screen. Even if I try to use the functions in the menu screen it flashes right back to the main menu screen. Very frustrated...need help!
