Question about Canon EOS-AE-1 35mm SLR Camera

1 Answer

I think I scratched something inportant....PLEASE HELP ASAP!

Hi, I am a college student who just changed my major to Photography and just began taking photography classes this semester. We have just started working with the 35mm camera and I have a Canon AE-1 and I was shooting a role of film and realize that there were some particles and an eyelash somewhere. So, I took the lense off and tried to blow air inside but the particles were on the part that has the circle on it and the brush went across it. Now, I can barely see out of the lense period and I don't have a clue what to do. Did I ruin my camera? Please help me!!! I am a little freaked out! Thank you so much, hdstokes e-mail address is [email protected]

Do not worry. The part that is scratched or has some dirt on it is called fresnel lens ( or the focusing screen ) and scratches to this part will NOT effect quality of your pictures ( i.e. you will not see any of the scratches on your results ) . True it is a hassle to have to look through a dirty viewfinder but just ignore it for now and just take pictures.

I have a nikon d7000 from a gift and i never used a dsl camera before, how do i learn to use?

You can start with the online tutorial on Nikon's web site at
http://www.nikondigitutor.com/eng/d7000/index.html

You might also visit your local library or bookstore and browse through the photography section. There are plenty of books on introductory photography, introductory DSLR photography, and other topics. The manual does a great job of explaining what each of the controls do, but doesn't do so great a job of explaining why you'd want to change these things. It's like the owner's manual for a car: you wouldn't want to learn how to drive just by reading it.

And most important: go out and take pictures! You're not paying for film and processing, so take a lot of pictures and look at them on your computer. Experiment, see what the different settings do.

Photography Class Camera

Hello, depending on the class he is taking you may find that a normal digital camera will suffice. Most camera classes and courses now use digital, unfortunately the old film cameras are becoming a thing of the past. If your son is a mad keen photographer then I would consider investing in his future and buy him a good quality digital SLR. I hope this is somewhat helpful.

is it b&w film? You said you were developing it yourself. if so, it could be a darkroom issue where you may not be keeping it light tight.
